Yes it is. One simple verse:

    2 Timothy 3:2
For people will be lovers of self and [utterly] self-centered, lovers of money and aroused by an inordinate [greedy] desire for wealth, proud and arrogant and contemptuous boasters. They will be abusive (blasphemous, scoffing), disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy and profane

Look... there is no actually a bible verse that is refering directly to masturbation... There is a story for a man in the Old Testament ''Genesis 38:3-10'' called Onan that "spilled his seed (semen) on the ground" during sex .God was sad of him and killed him. But this story does not actually refers to masturbation.Anyway it is probably a sin because you become addicted to a non spiritual thing. And in my opinion sex should be expresion of love and not pleasure

    It's sinful; plain and simple.

It really leaves an impure feeling to oneself afterwards. We are to be pure. I don't believe many do it out of faith either, but doubt about it being Sin or not, while doing it. Therefore it also becomes sin, because whatever is not of faith is sin (Rom 14:23).

It's really a trap. It opens up for sexually immoral thoughts and lust. We shouldn't be getting into willful temptations like that. "And lead (bring) us not into temptation...." (Matt 6:13).

I have to agree that it is in fact sin. I know it is considered "normal" but it is dangerously addictive and sense you feel it is wrong, it probably isn't worth doing. No matter how enjoyable it may feel.

Sex is meant to produce offspring and is permitted within the context of marriage. "Spilling seed" made God displeased because that is not why he gave us "seed."

Yes because masturbation goes hand in hand usually with sexual fantasies which is lust and very much sin. Masturbation can become very addictive and masturbation often leads to feelings of guilt which leads you away from God which is exactly what the enemy wants.

Wow im proud to read these posts,It feels good to know there are people with some sense about them,Yes it is a sin,the only reason why people come up with an excuse is because they think it will take the guilt out of it,my husband grew up around junk like that and before he got saved that was something he didnt really think about until he asked jesus into his heart and immediatly he felt horrible guilt,he said he searched up every kinda website to find out if it was right or wrong and the first thing he saw that might justify it he took it and ran which resulted in a situation he wont forget, also a separation From God.
    Thanks for speaking truth..

It's lustful. If the Bible did not address murder, would it still be wrong?

Of course not. I believe that the Bible is only a vague guideline and does not necessarily dictate our moral view. God has given us an intrinsic moral nature through evolution itself. Other animals, especially wolves, primeapes, and other pack/pride/colonial animals have displayed their own form of morality.

But again, this all relies on your own view on what lust and murder are. Some people would go as far as to say that verbal ad hominems are a form of murder. I do not think it is, but rather a form of disrespect and hatred, and that is why I believe that it is wrong.

Lust is part of organic nature itself, and is an evolutionary trait found in the majority of life found on Earth. As long as you do not act on that nature, and proceed to commit to sexual relations with a person, then I firmly believe it is fine.

I've actually heard a fairly interesting speech on this topic by some sort of youth pastor or whatnot...

He finds that masturbation as a release valve of libido is OK, as long as it does not include lustful thinking of a man or a woman.

Now I think that's complete hogwash, lustful thinking and masturbation are pretty much linked.

However we also do have to accept that almost every person has sexual desires. It's pretty much the second most important thing in our brains.

So you either have to bottle those urges up or have an outlet, e.g. masturbation or *gasp* premarital sex.

I suggest and do myself quite enjoy the latter option, I think I would go berserk otherwise. Also the bottling up is probably bad for mental health and so on and so forth.

In essence masturbation is a sin, not the mechanic part but the mental part. But it's a healthy way of dealing with sexual desires, and the lack of it would in my case lead to me committing even greater sins.

Psychology indicates reverse. The more you do something, the more you tend to want it.

    True, true.

Moderation, as always, has to be applied. But sexual desires are a part of human anatomy, it's manifested in hormones, pheromones and all that good stuff. Of course you have to have your sexuality under control, if you act upon it indiscriminately that'll get you into a lot of trouble...but completely ignoring an integral part of our nature doesn't seem viable either.

I choose to go the middle road, and while that might not be the "biblical" way of doing things, it's pretty much agreed upon universally by psychologists and the like to be the "healthy" solution.
