Is It Time for Democrats to Fight Dirty?

Has this become the mainstream DNC strategy for 2018 and 2020?

Excerpt:

In his new book, It’s Time to Fight Dirty, the Week’s David Faris argues that Democrats have no choice but to pursue strategies aimed at tilting the balance of power perhaps permanently in their favor. The ideas he advances go far beyond age-old proposals like eliminating the Electoral College. Faris would have the next Democratic Congress and president, for instance, create several new Democratic-leaning states and pack the Supreme Court with new seats for liberal justices. Last week, I spoke with him about his strategic agenda.

Their leadership loves to fight dirty. They might point to Trump and say, "Well, he's the dirtiest of them all!", but they've been like this since well before he was elected. And besides, he's just one person, not 48 senators and a sizable chunk of Hollywood and the media.

It feels as if the GOP has one Donald Trump, and the Democrats have at least a dozen.

Just the o]osite Democrats should be trying to take that high ground, not a lot of competion for that these days.
Indeed. Kind of hard to find a Chet Edwards, a Joe Lieberman and my family’s old acquaintance Daniel Patrick Moynihan.

Moynihsn, my old hero, loved him during the Clinton administration. The Democrats should be taking the high ground right now, not really seeing a lot of that right now.

Just the opposite, Democrats should be trying to take that high ground, not a lot of competion for that these days.

Yep. People are embarrassed and disgusted by the behavior of republicans. The last thing democrats need to do is emulate them.

We need to work in every state to get redistricting laws like those in Iowa and California, where politicians aren't allowed to rig the system.

That will be enough to defeat the republicans, and force them to reform or end as a party.

Fight Dirty? Now that sounds just like a wonderful way to unite people. Hello? Hello? Anybody there?

If democrats go down that road, there's no hope for America. You can get some short-term wins by doing what republicans have done. That's tempting, and it's easier to demonize republicans when they have leaders like Trump.

Hopefully, they'll avoid that temptation.

They aren't already?

Democrats, in the past, occasionally Gerrymandered. In Maryland, they're doing it now. Given power, people will use it to abuse other people. That's just the way it is.

It's why anyone who cares about America wants to make Gerrymandering illegal.

Typical intolerant rhetoric from the party of intolerance. Liberals had free reign the last 8 years prior to this Presidency. Sit down and shut up. Vote like everyone else and just deal, like you expected everyone else to do in 2008 and 2012.

I guess my exasperation with this constant stream of victim status rhetoric is just getting old.

This is silly. Demographics suggest a slow movement of the population to Democrats. By the time Democrats have the necessary political support to do this, it won't be necessary. I certainly hope we don't see Republican gerrymandering replaced by Democratic gerrymandering. I think there's reason to believe that at the point we get liberal control of the Supreme Court, the Court will be willing to deal with issues like gerrymandering and vote suppression, and fix the problem on a party-independent basis.

The one suggestion that I do support is direct election of the President.

This comment from an Amazon reviewer said it all:

"Anyone who loves America should read this book, be scared to death and motivated to never let the obscenely radical left wing ideas in this book ever come to fruition...

All you need to remember is this quote, "Grant citizenship to millions of undocumented immigrants, creating a host of Democratic-leaning voters.."... if that doesn't tell you the REAL and sole motivation (i.e. Power and wealth acquisition) of Democrats, then you may be eternally "out to lunch".

I give credit to this liberal for being honest about those dire intentions . But, he also brings to light why 21st century academia is an ominous radical , many even rationally label Anti American leftist incubator. AND why I'm terrified as my child reaches college age."

No, we have a dozen wannabees. There are plenty of people with views similar to Trump. No one took them seriously before. I'm not convinced that anyone is going to take the Democratic extremists seriously either. There was all kind of commentary saying that the Democratic party would be taken over by leftists. We're certainly seem some Democratic socialists, but most candidates haven't been. Of course a lot depends upon your perspective. If things like universal health care and education are considered radical, then I believe the Democratic party is becoming radical. But that's a silly perspective. And it's largely because the attempted compromise of the ACA has been rejected by Republicans.

In fact, it was divided for 6 years. And of course, Obama was often criticized by liberals for example, for deporting a record number of illegal aliens.

Sit down and shut up.

North Korea is a long way from here. But you might also find that to be the rule in Venezuela. And there's always Russia. Just a suggestion.

Sadly, you could be right. Gerrymandering is based on the fear of the people. The leaders of both parties want to decide for us. And the fewer noncompetitive districts there are, the better they can do that to us. Until Americans wake up and see that rigging districts leads to worse and worse people being elected, it will continue.
