I just had a question. I am not SDA but I recently read a book by Edward Fudge regarding conditional immortality called "The Fire that Consumes". I noticed that annihilationism is considered a discussion that is not to be discussed in the regular areas because it is considered unorthodox. However, my question is this... Since this doctrine is orthodox in the Seventh Day Adventists Churches are you allowed to discuss it or do you have to go to the Unorthodox doctrine area here in Christian Forums to discuss it ...or do you just never discuss it?

To me it seems silly to not allow people to discuss it when people are allowed to discuss things which are so much more dangerous spiritually. For instance it is okay to discuss whether or not justification is by faith alone or whether it is by works. And yet that is crucial to the question of salvation. What your idea of hell is like is not something that will cause you to not be saved. Anyway... I am just wondering. Thanks and God bless.

The idea of hell as a place of final destruction of all wickedness, rather than the eternal torment of the wicked, is orthodox in the Seventh-day Adventist doctrine (orthodox meaning accepted) and therefore - we discuss it on a pretty regular basis. :) If you have any questions on SDA doctrine and perspective, feel free to post and ask. Be prepared for varying answers - potentially, as we can be a diverse group of people.

Thank you. I suddenly got really busy on some other things and so I am not quite ready to deal with this question at the moment. I am planning to come back soon. Have a very good day. :)

Please don't read this in a loud tone. I don't mean to come after you. It's just so overlooked.

God Himself first introduces the idea of conditional mortality in Genesis 2 (47). Adam knew this before Genesis 3. Satan countered the idea in Genesis 3 (4). God inforced it in Genesis 3:22-24. The events of Genesis 3 put the world on a detour. Jesus provided the bridge and opportunity to return from the detour.

Read carefully the most famous passage in Scripture, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" Jn 3:16. The options are everlasting life and non-life - perish, anhilation. No middle ground. No underground. Jesus imparted us life from day 6 of creation. He was given to reinstate the right, the power, the opportunity of life.

You may notice that the first three chapters of Genesis and the last three chapters of Revelation form perfect bookends around the Biblical record. Two chapters of creation then the chapter of the fall. One chapter of the cleanup (Rev 20). Two chapters of recreation. Access to the tree of life is restored as noted in Revelation 22:14. Our immortality has always been dependant and always will be. Only God has independant immortality.

Never lose sight of the fact that uncondtional immortality of the soul is a wish and fabrication of the Devil. I find it absolutly amazing that his view of death and immortality is so nearly universal.

It is not allowed to be discussed in Christian Forums even though many Christian theologians now consider it to be correct or biblical. You can go over what the Bible has or the historical record and leave it at that and I think would be allowed, here is a few threads to check:
