Dear Daily Message Readers,

READ: Jonah 3

BIBLEGATEWAY LINK: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=jonah 3;&version=47;

Jonah 3:3-4 “So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three days' journey in breadth. 4 Jonah began to go into the city, going a day's journey. And he called out, ‘Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!’”

Jonah preached the Law and Judgment of God. Unlike many preachers today, there was no appealing to men's senses or felt needs in his message. Jonah boldly declared that their offense was so great before God that they stood on the edge of His severe judgment. There was no escape!

Jonah didn’t preach the modern “Gospel message” of "God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life." No, he preached with all his might concerning God’s opposition of them, his "fierce anger" (3:9) toward them, and the certainty of His judgment. The Law must be preached because by the Law comes the knowledge of sin (Romans 7).

Some you reading this are in that same boat. You have heard the Gospel over and over yet you carelessly pass it by. Don’t you see that just as God determined to judge Nineveh, He likewise determines to judge you?

Yes, we must verbally share Jesus with love, humility, and grace. When you are truly walking with the triune God, this will be a by-product of your life, speech, and conduct (Gal. 5:22-23). However, we must pray as Paul did for boldness to share the “mystery of the Gospel” to everyone who will listen (Eph. 6:19-20).

Faith Lesson: The urgency of God’s impending judgment hastens us to speak the whole truth of the Gospel with boldness and love.
