I believe that having a few drinks at a social occasion is okay, as long as you know your limits and don't get to the point where you're clearly drunk. However, for those people that can't determine how many drinks is too many, then they should completely abstain from alcohol.

i Dont drink. i will not drink. for reasons above in previous post that say not to get drunk, but in my personal opinion, i will not do anything that could compromise my testimony.

if joe shmo saw me drinking down a 40, whats that to say about my testimony, Righteousness and holiness goes down the drain,

Dont get me started on jesus drinking the wine, becuase there are to many differences between then and now to even think that they are the same.

I believe, from Gods conviction and teaching on my life, I will not drink and i will not get drunk. Period.

its about time people started getting off the fence and pick a side.

I will not comment on post trying to battle my posts content, only honest questions will be responded to.

Why do you care what Joe Schmo thinks?

There's a time and a place to get smashed. Office Christmas party? Probably not. In front of Gramps? Ditto cop.

But do you really think a waiter, bartender, fellow dinner patron is really going to care if you order a Heineken or Margarita at dinner? No.

Most are too consumed with their own choice from the wine list to really care.

Dont get me started on jesus drinking the wine, becuase there are to many differences between then and now to even think that they are the same.

No, not really. I mean, if you're only experience with alcohol has been keg stands with cheap domestic beer, sure. But if one is really into alcohol and the history behind it and the culture, it can be just as similar as the Jesus Drinking Wine thing.

Are you sure this is about the veracity of your testimony and not a personal bias? I could explain how this post comes across to an unbeliever, if you'd like. And it has nothing at all to do with your choice to drink or not drink.

The telling line is this:
its about time people started getting off the fence and pick a side.

Yes drinking in excess is wrong. The Bible clearly says so. The Bible says do not be drunk with wine. It also says to stay away from strong drink. So for me personally I think it may be ok to maybe drink a glass of wine for health purposes only because thats no worse than taking a man made drug for health purposes, but drinking wine to get a buzz or drunk and drinking any kind of strong drink like beer , liquor or mixed drinks is wrong. But see christians can only be held accountable to this. A person has to have a relationship with God before they can see and realize the truth of Gods Word. Our goal should be to bring people to Christ, and then we can guide them as the Lord leads to make right decisions concerning how they live their life. Its all in the Word. If people will read it and ask God for clear understanding He will reveal His ways.

Well, what if the Bible had been written by people who lived in Eastern Europe where vodka consumption has been more common than wine consumption? Can we be totally sure that instead, we'd be sitting here demonizing liquers then?

I'd agree with the adage of drinking not to get drunk, but having some vodka based cocktail on a full stomach, is probably more responsible than drinking a glass of wine on an empty stomach. Even if wine is apparently somehow "better" than vodka.

I could just picture communion done with a slice of potato and a shot of vodka... that actually sounds like a really good way to increase church attendence. >_>

Do you really think Jesus would of made communion, wine and bread if he was that worried about people drinking wine?

if joe shmo saw me drinking down a 40, whats that to say about my testimony, Righteousness and holiness goes down the drain,

how? admittedly, I have no idea what you mean by a 40, but the point stands if your out for a nice meal a glass of wine is not going to ruin your reputation (unless your a really big light weight who tries to strip and dance on tables after half a glass)

Dont get me started on jesus drinking the wine, becuase there are to many differences between then and now to even think that they are the same.

I would love to hear them because I honestly can't see the difference between a glass of wine with a meal in the ancient world or the modern.

im glad we all could get together and discuss this topic. but one thing should be pointed out.

No one persons conviction of drinking should be based off of any elses opinion on this thread. YOU need to ask god what he requires for your life. what you need to do. you need to search the word of God to find your answers. NOT THIS FORUM.

need any help with that? PM me

I honestly will say that the whole your not yourself when drunk is a lie

You are right.

People do not act outside of themselves when they are drunk.

I won't comment on if drinking is right or wrong, but I also wanted to dispel the theory that we suddenly become someone else. It increases the probability that you do something you'd already do. If you do something while drunk...you're capable of doing it while sober. I don't believe people who blame their actions all on drinking.

Drinking to excess can have a few meanings in my book. If you are drinking just to have a good time and you get drunk, but you are not going to drive under the influence then I think it is o.k. to drink. On the otherhand if you are drinking to impress someone by doing shot after shot or beer bong after beer bong and not being responsible at all with your drinking then that can lead to serious complications. Also underage drinking should not happen because that is mostly when an individual does not take it responsibly.

First of all, Drink TOO much isn't good for your body.
But there is nothing wrong with social drinking ect.

And it's not persay "wrong" to get Drunk once and a while.
As long as you don't drive and you have 24 hrs to sleep it off.

I was at an event for the week and I kinda drank too much, but it was all fun.
And no one got hurt.

Wow this is a really difficult answer for me to dive into but I will give it a go. Back in high school I would drink heavily just about every weekend and this was underage. At the time I really thought the dangers were minimal, but looking back on it I have no idea how I did survive many situations.

Now still being underage to drink in the United States I will not partake in it at all. As for when I turn 21 I will probably have a drink or two, but to drink to excess I will not go there. It only leads to difficult situations.

Ephesians 5:18 - "Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit"

1 Corinthians 5:11 - "But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of a brother if he is...an idolator, reviler, drunkard, or swindler"

1 Timothy 3:3 - "...not a drunkard..."

1 Corinthains 6:9-10 - "Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral...nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God"Luke

Luke 21:34 - "But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life..."

1 Peter 4:3 - "For the time that is past suffices for doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and lawless idolatry."

I can keep going if you want, but I think it should be pretty clear that drunkenness is sinful and explicitly contrary to the Bible. It doesn't matter whether you commit other sins while drunk; the Bible, in these and other verses, specifically prohibits drunkenness in addition to other sins, such as sexual immorality, orgies, and idolatry.

Drinking to excess is wrong. A lot of students come to college to experience new things and branch out from the grips of their parents. There is nothing wrong with branching out in my opinion at college it is all part of the experience for me. You just have to be responsible with it.
