Is Confession of Sin Necessary for Salvation?

People get confused and believe "confession" is about sins they commit as a Christian. NO! It is to BECOME a Christian! It is when you are justified and ALL your sins are taken away and forgiven. Then Jesus gives you His Spirit and makes you born again of the Spirit, and you are then sanctified - another word that is misunderstood. They think sanctification is a life long process of overcoming sin. NO! As soon as you are given the Spirit your nature become the divine nature that hates sin and loves righteousness.

We will commit trespasses against each other unwittingly, but as we forgive others their trespasses against us, the Father forgives us our trespasses.

Matthew 6:14-15
14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

No, Confession is not necessary, while Belief on the other hand is.
Belief in Jesus Christ for the Remission of sins that are past.
Then Baptism, becoming Regenerated, Born Again, of the Spirit.

Mark 16:16
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved;

What if a Christian holds those grudges?

A grudge is Non-Forgiveness, God will not Forgive the Trespasses of the person who does not forgive, holding a grudge is harboring anger.

Anger at what you might well ask, at being the recipient of a Trespass.

They've been warned!

Matthew 18:
22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. 23 Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 And when he had begun to settle accounts, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. 25 But as he was not able to pay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and that payment be made. 26 The servant therefore fell down before him, saying, ‘Master, have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’ 27 Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt.

28 “But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’ 29 So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’ 30 And he would not, but went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt. 31 So when his fellow servants saw what had been done, they were very grieved, and came and told their master all that had been done. 32 Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. 33 Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?’ 34 And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him.

35 “So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.”

Note that your verse states IF you forgive.... If means possibility, maybe even probability but never certainty. If a believer fails to forgive, the Father will not forgive him.

Your required to be "honest"... And Humble... And True, Genuine, Real, etc... Not Fake, etc, or a liar, or full of falsehoods, or full of lies you tell or have told yourself that are in opposition to these things, or are in order to be in opposition to these things...

If you not doing or being these things, (Honest, Humble, Genuine, and True) then your Salvation could possibly be in jeopardy...

God Bless!

And to do this, you need to be able to sort out lies from the truth, or certain lies from certain truths, while being and staying humble, and cool and level headed, at the same time...

Is Confession of Sin Necessary for Salvation?

Yes.
1) If we are seeking the Lord for salvation it is imperative we confess our sin. The Bible says if we cover our sin we shall not prosper but if we confess and forsake our sin we shall find forgiveness. Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

Apart from that there are three ways to deal with sin.
1) If you have sinned against another person you must go to that person and apologise and ask their forgiveness. Be reconciled as soon as possible with that individual. If someone has sinned against you and they may be unaware of it, again, seek to be reconciled and be ready to forgive from your heart.

2) If you have sinned against the Church to which you belong, you must apologise to the Church and seek their forgiveness. The Church leadership will advise you the best way to about this.

3) If you have sinned privately and it is known only to God then only confess it to God and seek His forgiveness and cleansing through the precious blood of Christ.

Confession. God has promised in 1 John 1:9 if we do so. he can be relied upon to forgive us our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Hallelujah! Believe it and live in the good of it.

Is Confession of Sin Necessary for Salvation?
God only saves sinners. The initial conviction of sin is essential. We do not have to list sins in order to be saved. Once we are born again, sin is a problem of fellowship, not of relationship. We need to confess all known sin on a regular basis. And not to another human. If we recall a sin committed before we are born again, we should confess that. If we have wronged someone and we can right the wrong, we should do that also. If we keep on being reminded of a sin, that is the devil. When God forgives, He forgets.

1 Jn 1:7 has a condition attached to it which is "walking in the light." Walking in the light is descriptive of a lifestyle of obedience to God. IF we walk in the light, then the blood of Jesus cleanses when we occasionally sin and confess it. Conversely, if we are not walking in the light and instead walk in darkness because of ongoing sin, we do not have the assurance of forgiveness.

Jesus died on the cross for our sins. So, trusting in Jesus to save us from our sins includes knowing we have sinned and Jesus is getting us forgiven for our sins.

But, in my opinion, when we first got saved, possibly we were not aware of every thing which we did which is a sin. We can need God's word to show us things.

"Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation" (in Philippians 2:13-16).

Complaining and arguing might be an example of what we did not know is wrong, when we first became Christians. But this scripture shows that arguing and complaining are wrong. They are anti-love, they can keep us from relating in love with God and people.

Not only this, but as we stop our arguing and complaining, we can "become blameless and harmless" in God's love, and "without fault" > even in this evil world's "crooked and perverse generation".

So, if we confess our arguing and complaining and seek God for real correction, we are not only trying to get forgiven, but we are seeking to become more like Jesus is pleasing to our Father, and we discover how we can relate with God and share with one another in God's own love.

So, our confessing needs to be with encouragement to get real correction and maturing in how we love.

How do you love other people...?

And by that I mean, is it a constricted, limiting, perhaps a little bit strenuous, act of the will, or is something that you just do naturally or that comes very natural to you, just maybe flows, or free flows from you, etc...?

And then, how do you do it, in that, how do you show it? is more of what I'm saying or would say or would be asking after that...?

God Bless!

I would say this is how we love . . . but meaning how God's love in us has us more and more naturally loving. And so > when we fail in this . . . yes we need to confess however we discover we are not naturally loving.

"Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you." (Ephesians 4:31-32)

So, when we give in to negative and nasty and naughty stuff like unforgiveness and anger and bitterness > confess this, but also with God we put these anti-love things away and seek to be kind and tenderhearted, and not only seek forgiveness but also forgive each other > "even as God".

And then, how do you do it, in that, how do you show it? is more of what I'm saying or would say or would be asking after that...?
Well, what needs our most attention is how we are, inside ourselves > "tenderhearted" . . . forgiving "even as God" > this has to do with how we become inside of us. Then discover how God makes us creative for what we do to love each and every person. 1 Timothy 2:1-4 says what to do, "first of all", to love any and all people in God's all-loving love.

Is Confession of Sin Necessary for Salvation?

To the Most High God, absolutely. It is necessary even for the Hebrews to get His attention at all.

But, you don't have to confess to a human, or even angel, in order to attain salvation. Even the Redeemer Himself tells us to pray to the Father.

I stand somewhere in-between, torn a lot of the time really, at conflict from within sometimes because of it...

But thanks for answering, I like your post...
