This may sound a little depressing, but I am a person who requires near-total social isolation (because otherwise I'm fatally toxic to those around me), and the combination of Asperger's and depression serves in my life to provide that isolation, and to deter me from any serious attempts to escape it. I do function well enough to make a living, though just barely. Hence, I consider both of these things blessings. Painful ones, but blessings nonetheless.

Yes, autism (without complications; ASD1) IS a gift from God.

Aggravated autism (ASD2/3) is the same as ASD1, PLUS a severe, if preventable, injury on top of it.

Where in the DSM are these distinctions made, or is this just another of the many quackeries that quacks pile on to ASD?
