I don't think that an organisation called "National Council of Resistance of Iran" is a neutral source, so I am hesitant to believe this report without any reservation.

Indeed! America spends billions on weapons programs and ignores the needs of its impoverished. We won't even take care of our own infrastructure because it would be "too expensive".

Honestly, how terrible would it be to live in a country like that?

The USA spends 3.7% of its much larger GNP on defense while Iran spends some 2.1%. The Iranians know that it is pretty much impossible to invade and then hold their country due to its terrain. But they do spend large amounts sponsoring terrorism against Israel and developing nuclear weapons. The lack of freedom and fear is a greater drag on the economy than is the military spending.
