• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm sorry, I misunderstood your post and didn't realize that he had made an assertion as well.

Israel?
Not hardly! Israel does not use, suicide bombers, and they certainly do not hail as heroes, the Palestinian suicide bombers, that have caused such a loss to Israeli lives! Leave them out of your Islamic list.

Just what we need is a Muslim nation. Nope. What we need is a Christian nation and that is pretty much what we have.

What we need is a secular nation that respects all religions and beliefs without specifically endorsing any.

Excuse me? We BOTH made an assertion.
No, I didn't. I stated that I have seen no such thing as YOU are asserting. That's not an assertion, that's a fact. I have not seen all the evidence and polls you clearly have already seen or you wouldn't have made your assertion.

You made a claim. I stated that I have seen no evidence to support such a claim and that what I have seen, in anti-terrorist activities that I DID prove, seems to contradict your claim.

Now, where did your claim come from that you have to be searching for evidence now? Surely you've already seen the evidence or you wouldn't make your claim. As it is you're offering Palestinians, who IIRC, make up a large percentage of the suicide bombers, as representatives for the whole Middle East. That doesn't work. That's certainly not "throughout."

It's not an Islamic list, and I never claimed Israel used suicide bombers. Avatar made the claim the suicide bombers are hailed as heroes throughout the Middle East. Israel is in the Middle East so I included it int the list of Middle Eastern Countries.

So, you don't know what the word "throughout" means? It doesn't mean "in one tiny region." Palestinians are directly involved in conflict with Israel trying to wrest land from them. They're the ones committing the bombing attacks in Israel. Note that their goal is really more political than relgious.

And no, Palestinians are certainly not representative of the Middle East as a whole.

Drop a line to Minneapolis Community and Technical College and remind them of that for me, will you?

http://www.startribune.com/191/story/1115081.html

Can you imagine what would happen if a college used taxpayer money to make improvements to facilitate Christian prayers???

Or if a college spokesman said something like this:

"Welcome and accommodation are the order of the day for all of the college's Christian students. The college has worked with local Christian leaders to ensure that these students' prayer needs and concerns are adequately addressed."

Ye gods, the local ACLU chapter would blow a gasket. There would be so many freakin' lawsuits filed inside of a week that the local judge would fly to Aruba and refuse to come back.

Davis has a good point bout the cafeteria menu catering to Christians and whatabout how schools schedule around Christian holidays?

Yeah, but anybody can eat fish on a Friday, not just Christians. Who's going to use foot-washing basins outside of Muslims?

As for schools scheduling around holidays, let's face it: if they remained open during Christmas, for example, how many people are going to show up for classes, students and faculty alike? Very few. They're going to take off to be with their family, and the school is not going to waste money by remaining open when only a small fraction of the campus population is going to show up. It has more to do with economics instead of religion.

And that's exactly the point: our secular institutions are already structured around the spiritual needs of Christians. Christian holidays and sundays are granted the Christian community so that its needs can be met.

Most people (especially college kids) don't go to church on sunday, so this isn't about economics, but rather about how deeply ingrained Christian culture is in the wider culture.

So issue a decree that all secular institutions will be open seven days a week, 365 days a year. Nobody's going to twist anybody's arm to show up during any given holiday, however, be it Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, or Klingon.
