  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Inside Man

Synopsis:

"Inside Man" is the story of a tough cop, Detective Frazier (Denzel Washington), who matches wits with a clever bank robber, Dalton (Clive Owen), in a tense hostage drama. As the dangerous cat-and-mouse game unfolds, a wild card emerges: Madeline (Jodie Foster), a power broker with a hidden agenda, who injects even more instability into an already volatile situation.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Denzel Washington is conveyed in the slightly cocky, slightly wise-alec mode here... with a sheen of urban hipster cool. When he's thrown off balance, theres an unfamiliar sensation that creeps over his face and then the gears start to turn, his detecting genes stabilizing him.
Clive Owen spends most of the film behind dark glasses and a mask, but nonetheless paints an intriguing mix of crusader and criminal.
Denzel Washington and Clive Owen are perfect as opponents, like generals on a battlefield, who pit their intelligence to outwit each other. Both actors give nuance to their respective characters with Frazier having a darker edge and Russell sometimes almost mirthful.
These are not typical characters of good and bad and so I easily involved my interest in these two very different men.
BUT I personally found Jodie Foster's character: Madeliene White, needless in the film, although, she does certaintly tie in with the plot and storyline; but its how Foster played White with a too-cool-reserved personality that made her seem more of a distraction in the film rather than a vital part of the subplot...
Inside Man” will captivate the average moviegoer looking for some thrills, but the real audience is the film buff who wants something more than the usual, generic Hollywood action fare.
(Compare this to, say, Firewall” and you’ll see what I mean.)
(Sidenote: If you are extremely offended by the "F-word" I suggest you not see this film.)
Nonetheless, Spike Lee does an artful job in creating a work that is intelligent, intense and entertaining.
Not bad at all.
I give it a B+.
I liked the movie. It was refreshingly different from mainstream Hollywood today. My only problem was that I thought the ending could have been a little bit "smarter". I was hoping to be surprised but, the robbers escape plan was less than I had hoped for. I agree with your B+
Totally agree.. I just was trying to explain to someone this morning (finally got around to seeing Inside Man yesterday) how completely annoying the character was.. and "distraction" is exactly the right word. I understand the intent to lead the viewer astray but I would have rather they left her out and found another way to maneuver that part of the story (plus she walked like her shoes didn't fit right and I wanted to hand her a pair of flats everytime they showed her walking)
