Well gosh, this is exciting. Lev Parnas, the recently indicted Ukrainian friend of Guilliani and Donald Trump arranged travel and meetings for Devin Nunes (yes the same Devin Nunes now leading the Republicans indictment defence on the intelligence committee) to Europe in Nov/Dec 2018 for reasons that are still unclear.

Just to be clear, Lev Parnas was one of the two Ukrainians who worked with Rudy Guilliani on the Ukrainian backchannel that lead to them smearing Ambassador Yovanovitch and having Trump remove her from office, and then pushed the demand to the Ukrainian president regarding announcing an investigation into the 2016 election conspiracy theories and Joe/Hunter Biden.

Parnas and his colleague Igor Fruman have now of course been charged with planning to direct funds from a foreign government "to U.S. politicians while trying to influence U.S.-Ukraine relations". They were arrested trying to leave the US with one way tickets.

So now we find out that this gentleman worked closely with Devin Nunes on Ukraine. The same Devin Nunes who has been standing up in the impeachment hearings day after day and spouting repeated conspiracy theories and trying to undermine witnesses testimonies at all costs. Gosh.

Oh and that trip to the Ukraine Devin took? He and three aides managed to spend an eye watering $63,000 in just four days. That's $16,000 a day for four people. For any other travelling businessmen out there, I'm sure those numbers will have particular resonance. This isn't the president travelling with a security detail, this is four guys travelling commercial.

Rep. Devin Nunes got help from indicted Giuliani associate Lev Parnas for 2018 Europe trip

In happier news, Rep. Eric Swalwell was kind enough to enter this into the congressional record at the hearings yesterday.

Predictably, Nunes is threatening to sue. Not Parnas. Not Parnas' lawyer, but the media.

"These demonstrably false and scandalous stories published by The Daily Beast and CNN are the perfect example of defamation and reckless disregard for the truth," Nunes said.

This could be a problem for Nunes. If the media stands by these stories, they could win the lawsuit if they show this is true since truth is an absolute defense against defamation. Nunes could inadvertently cause more people to attempt to prove these claims against him.

Wow. Devin Nunes spent five days telling everyone who could hear him there is no evidence of a crime in his opening statements, using words like "scam" and denying anyone has ever shown him a reason for an impeachment inquiry to occur. Never mind the fact that he sat through hours of testimonies that must be "the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth" from a variety of witnesses. He constantly denies it ever happened. Why would he say all that crap if there was any reason to suspect he was in Ukraine with Rudy Giuliani?

Could be that someone involved has lots of compromising information on his activities related to Ukraine. Maybe the source of the propaganda he's spewing, maybe the people he was involved with in whatever he was doing with Rudy's indicted friends, maybe something else.

From WaPo reporting:

[Parnas' lawyer] Bondy also said that a top aide to Nunes, Derek Harvey, sometimes joined a group that met frequently in spring 2019 at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., to discuss the Biden matter, among other topics. The group, according to Bondy, was convened by Giuliani, Trump’s personal attorney, and included Parnas, his business associate Igor Fruman, as well as journalist John Solomon and the husband-and-wife legal team of Joe diGenova and Victoria Toensing.

All the best people!

John Solomon?! Well doesn’t that just put some of his recent reporting into a whole new perspective..

I think it would be only fair to give these people a chance to explain their actions (under oath) in front of the appropriate House committees.
You get a subpoena. And you get a subpoena. Everyone gets a subpoena!

In fun news, Devin Nunes who previously claimed he had never heard of Lev Parnas, now apparently remembers a phone call in this extremely awkward interview with FOX.

Acyn Torabi on Twitter

For bonus entertainment (and just to reiterate that Devin Nunes is really, really bad at being a politician) he also claims that the first time he heard the name of the US ambassador to the Ukraine was when impeachment started.

Just to be clear, the Chair of the House Intelligence Committee (2015–2019) had supposedly never heard of the US ambassador to the Ukraine (2016–2019), one of the worlds most critical geo-political hotspots in recent years.

Somebody should remind Nunes that its only the President who is immune from criminal prosecution while still in office!

Does America have an extradition agreement with the Ukraine just he case Nunes goes to Dulles Airport, like Lev and Boris, to buy a one way ticket to Kiev?

Lev Parnas told MSNBC he went to Ukraine to put pressure on officials on behalf of Mr Trump and his personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani.

The alleged intention was to damage Mr Biden, a potential Democratic rival to Mr Trump in this year's US election.

President Trump denies involvement.

In the interview aired on Wednesday, Mr Parnas said Mr Trump was "aware of all my movements".

"I wouldn't do anything without the consent of Rudy Giuliani or the president. Why would [Ukrainian] President Zelensky's inner circle or [Interior] Minister [Arsen] Avakov or all these people or [former] President [Petro] Poroshenko meet with me?

"Who am I? They were told to meet with me. And that's the secret that they're trying to keep. I was on the ground doing their work," he added.

Mr Trump "decided to" increase pressure on Ukraine to investigate the Bidens' activities by withholding military aid, Mr Parnas said.

I'm also not sure this cartoon is an accurate representation of Devin's actions if it doesn't include a fake cow somewhere. He seems very committed to that bovine pal...
