In Landmark Tax Return Case, Supreme Court Rules Trump Is Not Immune to Criminal Process
The Supreme Court, in a 7-2 decision on Thursday, said that it is not so that President Donald Trump is absolutely immune to the criminal process, meaning a state prosecutor can access Trump’s tax returns as part of a criminal investigation.

“Article II and the Supremacy Clause do not categorically preclude, or require a heightened standard for, the issuance of a state criminal subpoena to a sitting President,” the Supreme Court held in Trump v. Vance.

If they had come down on the other side of this, they would have set a precedent for all future presidents to be able to avoid a criminal investigation.
But will it affect Trump before his term is up?

They should avoid electing criminals in the first place, not provide immunity for serial molesters, tax dodgers and con artists to expand their empires. Trump is alleged to have falsified accounting records to get bank loans - bank fraud. Trump is alleged to have falsified documents to avoid paying taxes to New York.

Richard M. Nixon won his first election by a wide margin. He had to resign before finishing his second term as he had obstructed justice by firing attorney generals and abusing his power to cover up the involvement of White House staff in the wiretapping of the DNC national headquarters at the Watergate. Some of Nixon’s staff went to prison.
