No, not really. I read "My Utmost for His Highest" about 10 years ago. I also read Spurgeon's Faith Checkbook in the Semper Reformanda thread (thank you very much Truly Blessed).

I did recently purchase a new Bible (NIV Reformation Bible). It has the Westminster Catechism, Canons of Dort, and Westminster Confession of Faith in the back. I've been reading them - so maybe that counts.

How did you meet your husband?

On a blind date. A classmate was engaged to his good friend and kept asking me if I wanted to meet someone. I kept saying no - finally agreed to dinner at her house just to shut her up. The two friends married later the same year and divorced within 2 years (before Joe and I married). Joe and I have been married for 27 years, funny how things turn out.

Several actually.

In high school two of the young adult moms from my church, Kathy Donle and Joann Wilson - they were awesome women of God, constantly encouraging me in my spiritual growth.

My pastor - who was my friend long before he was my pastor. David constantly challenges me to study theology and doctrine - to know why I believe what I beleive.

My dad - without question the greatest person I've ever met. While the church was not his vocation - he has always actively participated in his church. He loves the Lord and has a strong prayer life. Finally, and most importantly - he quietly goes about doing the Lord's work. He is constantly giving to others - either by active participation or by financial support. Very few people (myself included) know of all he's done for others - he never makes a big show of anything. Truly a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. When President Bush first spoke of "compassionate conservatives" many people laughed saying it was an oxymoron. I know better - I had the perfect example in my father.

Well, I admit to being spoiled - I like things like indoor plumbing and taking a shower or bath every day (as opposed to once or twice a year). So, while I find lots of historical eras interesting - I wouldn't want to go to them.

If only because it was lots of fun and was the last time I didn't have any real responsibility - I could do high school again (especially if I could retain the stuff I know now).

I hope this doesn't sound negative - but I'd tell them that marriage isn't like the movies, tv or romance novels. There are days (sometimes longer) when you don't like your spouse - and that's ok, the days you love him/her will ultimately outweigh the others. As much as we'd like our spouses to be "perfect," they aren't. And contrary to what is commonly taught these days marriage isn't 50-50, its 110-110.

Are you a Star Trek fan?

Yes - absolutely. The original series is still one of my all time favorites (I used to imagine I lived on the Enterprise). I almost cried when I saw the first Star Trek motion picture. Next Generation and Deep Space Nine were both excellent series also. Never really followed Voyager or Star Trek: Enterprise (no particular reason - just didn't watch them).

One thing that I really appreciated about the original series - they were a "moral" people with a belief in God.

I dated and married my husband because he was very different from my father (I was in a pretty rebellious stage at the time). However, I'm back to being an obedient daughter - and in fact, my husband is becoming more like my dad as he ages. Funny how things turn out.

What is one thing you love most about your husband?

2 things come to mind right off the bat - and I give them equal weight because they relate to each other.

First - his honesty.

Second - his loyalty to his family.

I've always said that I know Joe hasn't cheated because he's too honest. I'm certainly not always the most lovable person in the world, nor the easiest to live with. If Joe decided he didn't want to be with me any more - he'd say so, he wouldn't go behind my back and pretend everything was fine.

Your husband sounds like a really great guy,I like people that are straight forward and I really value honesty in a relationship....if you don't have trust and honesty...I don't think you have much. I never will understand people that cheat. Oh,and edie I can't imagine you being hard to live with you seem pretty lovable to me.
