  1. Welcome to Christian Forums, a forum to discuss Christianity in a friendly surrounding.

Your voice is missing! You will need to register to be able to join in fellowship with Christians all over the world.

We hope to see you as a part of our community soon and God Bless!

  2. The forums in the Christian Congregations category are now open only to Christian members. Please review our current Faith Groups list for information on which faith groups are considered to be Christian faiths. Christian members please remember to read the Statement of Purpose threads for each forum within Christian Congregations before posting in the forum.
  3. Please note there is a new rule regarding the posting of videos. It reads, "Post a summary of the videos you post . An exception can be made for music videos.". Unless you are simply sharing music, please post a summary, or the gist, of the video you wish to share.
  4. There have been some changes in the Life Stages section involving the following forums: Roaring 20s, Terrific Thirties, Fabulous Forties, and Golden Eagles. They are changed to Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, and Golden Eagles will have a slight change.
  5. CF Staff, Angels and Ambassadors; ask that you join us in praying for the world in this difficult time, asking our Holy Father to stop the spread of the virus, and for healing of all affected.
  6. We are no longer allowing posts or threads that deny the existence of Covid-19. Members have lost loved ones to this virus and are grieving. As a Christian site, we do not need to add to the pain of the loss by allowing posts that deny the existence of the virus that killed their loved one. Future post denying the Covid-19 existence, calling it a hoax, will be addressed via the warning system.
  7. There has been an addition to the announcement regarding unacceptable nick names. The phrase "Let's go Brandon" actually stands for a profanity and will be seen as a violation of the profanity rule in the future.

If you can't re-marry then...

doesn't matter. the passage in hebrews isn't commending her for lying or for being a whore. it's commending her for how she treated the spies joshua sent out.

    again, the point is moot.

it's really sad to witness people desperately searching for a loophole to justify an adulterous relationship.

    really sad indeed.

It's only moot in your head.

She still lied in order to exercise her faith. She may not be commended for it, but it's still there. She sinned in what she did, but was commended for the outcome.

So, the point isn't moot unless in acknowledging it you are making your own point moot, which I understand your reluctance to do so.

you just conceded you point here. she wasn't commended for lying, as the writer of hebrews doesn't mention it. nowhere in scripture, including this passage, is lying promoted.

you'll need to find another loophole to justify adultery.

It's really sad that other Christians are wanting to hold people in bondage over something that Jesus himself didn't.

The statement that Christians eat their own wounded is so true within the thread.

You and Dave L and anyone that agrees with you has been shown time and time again in this thread that you are wrong. You are refusing to see it.

    That is what is sad.

No matter, I know I am heaven bound.

and you're a day late and bible verse short on that claim.

Now you're grasping at straws to try and prove me wrong.

She wasn't commended for lying, but how she handled the spies when people came looking for them. She lied, flat out lied to save them. So in exercising her faith she committed a sin. You cannot separate that from scripture.

While she wasn't commended for lying, the act itself was a lie.

what does providing lodging for spies and believing that these spies that joshua sent out are the people of God that will inherit the land have to do with lying....or being a whore?

It would be more accurate to say that they want to keep people out of the bondage of sin. Jesus, himself, identified the nature of divorce and remarriage.

One person wants people to be free from sin. Another person just wants them to be free from the first person.

As I have said, I am free and clear per a couple priests and several pastors. I will listen to them over a random person on the internet.

Because she lied when they asked where they were. In order to provide lodging, she lied.

    How hard was that?

    joshua 2:2-13

2 Now Joshua the son of Nun sent out two men from Acacia Grove to spy secretly, saying, “Go, view the land, especially Jericho.”

So they went, and came to the house of a harlot named Rahab, and lodged there. 2 And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, “Behold, men have come here tonight from the children of Israel to search out the country.”

3 So the king of Jericho sent to Rahab, saying, “Bring out the men who have come to you, who have entered your house, for they have come to search out all the country.”

4 Then the woman took the two men and hid them. So she said, “Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they were from. 5 And it happened as the gate was being shut, when it was dark, that the men went out. Where the men went I do not know; pursue them quickly, for you may overtake them.” 6 (But she had brought them up to the roof and hidden them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order on the roof.) 7 Then the men pursued them by the road to the Jordan, to the fords. And as soon as those who pursued them had gone out, they shut the gate.

8 Now before they lay down, she came up to them on the roof, 9 and said to the men: “I know that the Lord has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you. 10 For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. 11 And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath. 12 Now therefore, I beg you, swear to me by the Lord, since I have shown you kindness, that you also will show kindness to my father’s house, and give me a true token, 13 and spare my father, my mother, my brothers, my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.”

the bolded is what the writer of hebrews is commending rahab for, which has to do with her faith and did not require her to lie about anything.

this is what "received the spies in peace" is referring to.

Okay, but that obviously means that it isn't prohibited "for any reason." In any case, it is divorce and remarriage that we are talking about here.

The key part where she lied is in here:
4 Then the woman took the two men and hid them. So she said, “Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they were from. 5 And it happened as the gate was being shut, when it was dark, that the men went out. Where the men went I do not know; pursue them quickly, for you may overtake them.” 6 (But she had brought them up to the roof and hidden them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order on the roof.) 7 Then the men pursued them by the road to the Jordan, to the fords. And as soon as those who pursued them had gone out, they shut the gate.

So, in order to do what she did she lied. She sinned by lying.

I agree she wasn't commended for lying, but she did in the process of hiding those spies lie.

    That is our point.

Look, you're being purposely obtuse at this point and I don't deal with people that are like that. It becomes circular.

I'll leave you to think whatever you wish.

Maybe I'll track you down in heaven and we'll have a good laugh about this day!

i know where your "key part" is, and my point is the writer of hebrews doesn't commend her for it or even mention it.

what the writer of hebrews commended her for was what i bolded and she didn't have to tell a lie to let them in her house or to believe who they were.

she only had to lie to keep those guys from being arrested which, again, the writer of hebrews doesn't mention and is not the focus of his commendation.
