nono, people have always been evil and insane, we just hide it better nowadays. look at the history of mankind and see that, yes we did evil in the past and we do it all the time. and we only seem to care about it when we are told to care. let us not forget that americans are killing children and innocent people in other countries. we truly are brainwashed! to think we are so good and pure, is nothing more than a lie, we are idiotic and uncaring for the people in the world, if we cared there would be far more protesting wars and the killing of innocents. "sociopaths" is what we the people have become, and I bet it is the same everywhere.

Without having read most of the responses, I just wanted to say that I agree with the OP. This isnt unorthodox in my opinion, it simply makes sense. I do think that there is more to it than just blaming video games, but I agree with the premise that how a child turns out is largely attributed to how they were raised and what they were allowed/not allowed to do.

We live in an evil world. Everything conspires to cause tragedies once in a while.
To make matters worse, we love to find meaning into things that are meaningless to Jesus... We will all die in our assigned times. Nothing is certain even for the elect, you may die tomorrow or the next second.
With the very fragile nature of life, you should thank God all the time even just for the fact you are alive!

I realize people feel powerless when something like this happens, and they want something to blame, but I don't know that their is an easy answer.
From what I understand the shooter was upset that his mother was going to commit him to a psychiatric institution. Any function that your brain carries out is one that can be corrupted, and mental illness is like cancer. It happens, and I would say is a result of the corruption of the physical world.
You could blame movies and video games but they obviously aren't a direct cause of murder or otherwise we would all be dead. Speaking as someone who has watched a steady stream of gorey/violent tv and movies for the last 20 years and has played violent video games for countless hours on end I can tell you that they do not program me to murder. I'm working on converting to being a vegetarian b/c I can't stand the thought of animals being mistreated and killed for food, and I even avoid stepping on insects anymore if I can avoid it.
I really don't think art hurts people. Art is an expression of life, desire, and fear. It's honestly one of the most honest forms of human expression.
Christ said it's not what goes into a man's mouth that corrupts him but what comes out of it.
