If there ever was a time in history, that a third party could succeed, it is now! I believe GOOOH - Get Out Of Our House - is that Party. Actually, GOOOH is not a "third party" like like the other parties...it is really a SYSTEM....whereby we can kick out all 435 House of Reps and take back our Country! How many of you have heard of GOOOH?

Actually, I think you will find that now is almost the exact opposite of a time in which a third party will succeed.

A century and a half of the same two parties dominating, an electoral system which basically means a vote for a third party will often bring greater electoral success to the party that you would least preference, no political will to change such a system...

Good luck to GOOOH, I do think they are correct in desiring an alternative to two party rule, but having a look at what they are saying I don't think that they are going to get much traction. The FAQ section pretty much demonstrates how their heart is in the right place, but in practice it is basically impossible to see it happening, not least because it is in the interest of the two major parties and their backers not to let anything that upsets the status quo to happen.

I dunno about GOOOH - having the entire government in the hands of amateurs seems riskier than what we got. If no one there knows the intricacies of the laws and how to get things done, then all of them will have to rely on outside professionals - lobbyists and political machines will gain rather than lose power.

Agreed :)

A couple things directed at the OP...

I view the senate as more dangerous and corrupt than the house of reps.
As far as a new third party, good luck with that. As long as the main 2 parties own media outlets, a third party will never make it. They'll either be outbid for media air-time, or be made to look like a fool or "tin-foil" by the media companies' benefactors.

Example: Ron Paul. He was probably more honest and had a better of a idea of how our government is really being run. Yet, he got crushed my the major parties because the FOX/CNN of the world make him look like a crazy conspiracy theorist because he questioned the federal reserve.

The Republicans were originally a third party but slowly overcame it.

Another almos third party success was Eugene Debs. He was a socialist. He got nearly 20% of the vote in Oklahoma during the 1920 election. Overall, though, he never received that much of the vote.

The only choice you hve here would be that the Republicans were originally the only Third Party to become successful.

The role of the Third Party in American politics can be measured, though, just as it can be measured in Britain.

Third parties show participation by making such a big stink of things that political parties which actually matter will confront the more important issues that these parties confront that make them popular.

However, the Democrats paid dearly for this in the 2004 election when they gambled that the majority of Americans would turn on Pres. George W. Bush in favor of a man who voted for the war given the same intelligence.

Talk about embarrassing.

I dunno, while on some level I might agree with you aisy, looking at some of the foul ups and the way our govt. is spending money, I don't see how anybody could do much worse.

Why? The professionals are the ones that have gotten us to where we are. What's really so complicated about running the country? The only thing that makes the legislative process so complex are the things that are the problem in the first place. I mean, who would you rather have crafting healthcare legislation, someone who is an expert in healthcare or someone who is an expert at getting and keeping political power? We would be FAR better of with the legislative process in the hands of "real" people with real world experience in the problems we're actually facing instead of a bunch of people who's experience is, like I said, largely limited to getting and keeping political power.

Care to elaborate? Certainly they have their hands in it somewhere. You're saying there are no politics involved in drafting legislation?

I find it comical that people still believe that the elected politicians are in control :D

That hasn't been the case since the 1920's...

We have a healthcare bill practically written by lobbyists... how much worse could it get?

If you are suggesting that it's being drafted by the healthcare industry, then all the more reason to get rid of professional politicians. If there was no ability to keep expanding one's personal political power, that would reduce or eliminate the role that corporations can play in our legislative system.

I am and always have been in favor of limiting a politician's accumulated number of years served, and outlawing lobbying. without these changes nothing else will change....

If we outlaw lobbying it will move into backrooms.

At least now we have some idea of whom has bought whom.

That is right! And can you imagine how much better it could be if the people there were honest! The GOOOH people have to sign a pledge that they will only vote according to how they told the people who elected them they would vote, otherwise, they will have to step down....

They are not allowed to accept money from lobbyists! Imagine lobbyists not being able to buy peoples vote! What an improvement that alone would be!

Please go to the GOOOH website and check it out....It is the best hope America has - politically speaking....
