1 Samuel 2:
22
Now Eli was very old; and he heard everything his sons did to all Israel, and how
they lay with the women who assembled at the door of the tabernacle of meeting.
23 So he said to them, Why do you do such things? For I hear of your evil dealings
from all the people.
24 No, my sons! For it is not a good report that I hear.
You make the Lord’s people transgress.
25 If one man sins against another, God will judge him.
But if a man sins against the Lord, who will intercede for him?

Nevertheless they did not heed the voice of their father,
because the Lord desired to kill them.

“If one man sins against another, God will judge him.”
There are many who believe they cannot sin because they are born again,
but then they offend their brother or sister and think that they have license.
There is a sin that is directly against God Himself, and there is sin against
another person. To rightly comprehend this is to see the need to admit fault,
heal wounds, and maintain godly relationships.

Seventy Times Seven
Matthew 18:
21
Then Peter came to Him and said, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me,
and I forgive him? Up to seven times?
22 Jesus said to him, I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to
seventy times seven.

“But if a man sins against the Lord, who will intercede for him?”
There is sin that is beyond intercession, which creates a trespass directly
against God, while at the same time being an offense unto others to the
harm of the Body of Christ.

1 John 5:
16
If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death, he will ask,
and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin
leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that.
17 All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death.

There is a sin of a person against another, in which reparations can be made, and
intercession is called for within the church. There is a sin of which the wrath of God
abides.

“Nevertheless they did not heed the voice of their father, because the Lord
desired to kill them.”

And why do you think the wrath of God was upon the sons of Eli, that His desire was
to kill them for their sin? It is because of the offense done unto others.

1 Samuel 2:17 Therefore the sin of the young men was very great before the Lord,
for men abhorred the offering of the Lord.

Consider the brother who sinned against God and the congregation in 1 Corinthians 5.
He was disciplined and made an example for all, hopefully to the long term benefit of the congregation.
But what if Paul, or one of his traveling companions was found to be engaging in fornication?
If a member of a church falls, the rest of the congregation may be able to lift them back up. But if the leader of a congregation falls, the entire congregation often falls with him.
This is the burden of leadership.
This is the offense of which the Lord has pronounced Woes.

Luke 17:
1
Then He said to the disciples, It is impossible that no offenses should come,
but woe to him through whom they do come!

2 It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he
were thrown into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.

3 Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and
if he repents, forgive him.

4 And if he sins against you seven times in one day, and seven times in a day
returns to you, saying, I repent, you shall forgive him.

There have been many who have borne the mantle of the Lord’s anointing,
only to have gone on to wear the millstone.

Galatians 6:1 Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual
restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.
