Ann Arbor's cleaner, Berkeley has better weather. Berkeley has better surrounding areas/mass transit, Ann Arbor's more affordable.
I've actually been to Berkley, but I live like 2 hours away from Ann Arbor. I hear it's a magical place. I still dream about Berkley and the delicious organic vegetarian cafes, the yoga studios, the book stores. If Ann arbor is similar,...

Ann Arbor is similar to Berkeley in that regard; there's a ton of book stores; I especially recommend Dawn Treader on Liberty... it's everything a used book store should be. Crowded, overflowing with books of all subjects and a few dozen languages. Good food, not as much organic stuff, yoga studios, lots of trees (It does live up to its name). Kerrytown is really nice if you can make it early on a Saturday morning; the farmer/artisan market should still be in full force this time of year. Make sure to get some good bread at Zingerman's, though the line's usually pretty long on the weekends because it's so popular.

Ann Arbor has better ice cream than Berkeley. Stucchi's is seriously delicious.

If you like beer, Ashley's has about 75 beers on tap at any given time (about 60 are static, the others vary according to availability and season).

There's a veggie/vegan restaurant, and though I tend towards that sort of diet, I actually prefer naturally veggie dishes from Indian/mediterranean cuisine (Madras Masala and Jerusalem Gardens, respectively).

If you feel like Italian, I recommend Argerios for mid-range price, Palio if you're feeling indulgent (southern italian and mix, respectively).

There are a few sushi bars in town; Totoro's the best one if you want to get out for $8-12ish.

The bums in Ann Arbor are less scary than the bums in Berkeley, too.
