Go ahead share some good stories about this awesome breed of dog who has been seriously misunderstood in the media!!!

Share pictures of your pits - whether they're a purebred or a mixed pit like our Staffordshire Terriors are. Tell us what you love about them and why they are such good dogs. Tell us how you found your dog and what got your interested in the breed. Tell us why you love them so much! And even if you don't own one, please say something nice about them.

I just feel like it is time to get some good information out in the public about these awesome dogs. What do you think?

My Staffy/American Bulldog mix (I wish I had a picture of her to put up) is adorable! Even though she's a very big dog, and very agile, she puts on an act like she's a puppy and needs help doing things like getting on the bed. She also has an easy chair that she's claimed as her day bed. She also likes being carried like a baby...she's just a little hard to carry! :)

I *heart* my Staffy!

Sorry, I don't have a Pit Bull, but I agree, with all the bad rap stories going on about them, I wanted to say something positive. :)

I wish I could remember what type of Pit Bull my friend has  it's an American something. :sorry:

Anyone, she brought him over to my house to meet my 150 lb Great Dane. Wow, what an "aggressive" dog - LOL - both of them were so freaked out by each other, they didn't know what to do! :D

It's a cute little dog, very sweet, but a little too hyper for my liking. But my Dane sleeps 23 hours a day, so any activity beyond that is considered hyper to me. ^_^

I *heart* my Staffy!

Your staffy sounds so much like ours! They are such a loveable bunch of animals and smart too, they really know how to tug on your heart strings and get you to do things, they could very well do themselves, but they're so cute you can't resist -- I know!!!

Our oldest one (2.5) weighs 95lbs. and thinks he is a lapdog, literally. He is part Staffy and part boxer!!! What a mix but so adorable! He has similar traits to a Great Dane in that . . . he loves to "lean" on things, mostly people!!! His tail was cut before we got him but it may have been a good thing. He gets sooooooooo excited when we come home or talk to him he would probably send things flying everywhere if he HAD a tail! He's got big floppy ears because I think it is cruel to cut them and make them wear that stupid ring on their heads for 6 wks.

Anyway . . . Here is a little FYI for anyone interested in the breed = This type of animal has to be constantly touching or close to their human friends and I personally love that about this breed. Whether I am sitting in my chair, sleeping, or having dinner at the table, he is always near me touching something that belongs to me like my feet! If you don't want a dog that thinks his whole world revolves around you . . .then don't get a staffy!

As if Tison wasn't enough dog and love to spread around . . .my dear son and his girlfriend went and found another staffy mix at the Humane Society about 2 wks ago or so. I think it's more like 3 now :0) They named her Jasmine, but we call her Jazzy or Jazzy girl for short. You know us animal lovers we always gotta give them a nickname!

We believe she is mixed with Chocolate lab. She is the most beautiful mink color you've ever seen. Has the cutest face EVER!!! She looks like a little bear cub! And she loves to be picked up and held like a little baby too - which is easy to do since she is still a puppy @12 wks old and only weighs about 15lbs.!

I love my staffys!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That face is so cute I don't understand why people hate them so much yrue they do need alot of training and special care. When taught right these dogs will be great companions to you.Like any dogs you can make them mean to

I don't understand it either :sigh: and you're right . . .any dog can be "made" mean not just staffy's and staffy mixes.

My aunt and uncle that live 20 mins away have 2 Pittbull terriers. They are both almost 8 now and I grew up around them.I was always camping with them and I recall getting up to go use the toilet and the female would follow me,sitting down by me until i got up to go back to the sleeping area. She slept on my feet and every time I stirred she was watchful.I luv them both as they age,and I get mad when people say to me.."oh..they have PITTBULLS? aren't you scared ?" i'm more afraid of my friends poodle that bites me every chance she gets.the pittbull breeds been in the wrong hands, and the pups pay the price.:(

Thank you so much for this awesome story sparks_will_fly! They are the most loyal breed of dogs I've ever seen besides the Lab mixes! They are very protective and keep watch over their people like no other! They absolutely adore their owners and can't stand to be away from them!

Thank you for coming by and sharing some good news about staffys!

My cousin has a pit bull. It think it listens to him better than anyone else. He has taught it to lay down and roll over. My cousin was in a car wreck that left him with mental disabilities. The dog means a lot to him. He loves his pit bull.

this is where you see the heart of the breed,in the loyalty to its people. my brother is the one that my daughter madeline(sparks) speaks of.He has had Staffy's and Staffy mixes since I can remember. One boxer he had was a mix, which did have some problems.Does anyone know if there is truth to the claim that the Pittbull fighting claims are due to inner breeding? Just a question.Nice thread, lets keep it going.I myself do not have Pitt Bulls as I raise Siberians,it seems these 2 breeds are fine together if raised together. My males show much intolerance towards my brothers dogs. His pitt bulls walk away where as my Husky male tries to fight his male.Interesting and also hard to work out visits.

Honestly MaddiesDad . . .I can't say if the problem's people claim to have with "pitbulls" are due to inbreeding. I'm sure it doesn't help.

I myself personally, would just really like to see a big, fat, bold line drawn between PITBULLS and Staffordshire Terriers, whether mixed or not. There IS a difference. Staffordshire Terriers are the breed of dog some idiotic people turn into Pitbulls. "Pitbulls" isn't even a breed -- it's a term that comes from bulldogs being thrown in a pit and forced to mame and kill one another. It's a very sick practice.

I applaud you for sharing the story you did, about your Husky and your brother's pitbulls. The male staffy we have is the same way. He will not initiate any problems (but won't back down either if necessary) and would just assume play like a puppy or knock you down and lick you from head to toe. There is nothing like a greeting from a staffy, let me tell you, they are the best!!! I've never seen a breed of dog sooooooo entirely wrapped up in their owner and so glad to see you even if you just left 3 minutes ago.

Here's a similar story to yours -- This last Thanksgiving my oldest son and ex husband came to visit with their purebred White Lab dog . . .and guess who went off on who? You got it! The lab went bolistic on our staffy in his own home within seconds after arriving. We wound up keeping them in two seperate rooms at all times during the course of the 4 days they were here, because the LAB just would not stop being aggressive!

I do hope that you and your brother's dogs can someday be kept together in the same area so you are able to visit with your brother. That has to be hard. It's going to make it very difficult for us and my son and ex to visit much as well, in the future.

Does anyone else know anything we can do to alleviate this? I hate to say this but . . .getting males fixed does seem to be part of the solution, but not so if you breed your dogs. Any other suggestions???

Thank you so much for your awesome post! God bless you and your beautiful Siberian Huskies! Check back and see if anyone was able to come with some suggestions.

Some Pitbulls are naturally more aggresive than other dogs but I think it has more to do with their breeding and upbringing. I've never had one but I'm sure they're loads of fun. If a pitbull turns bad, it's probably due to a lack of training. A pitbull just killed a little girl is South Carolina yesterday or today so I don't know if this is a good time for me to say this, but I think they are great dogs unless the owner is not planning on spending time on it when it's young. :)

I sure your pitbulls will be great pets!

how tragic! I didn't know alot of the info thats being posted here.Had no idea that pitbull and staffordshire were different breeds.I thought pitbull was just a rough term! the one's i've been around seemed very friendly with alot of happy hyperness.there's attacks everywhere daily.i read somewhere that in detroit? they seize the pitbuls and simply euthanize if they've been in the ring.is this saying this breed cannot be rehabed? There are 30 breeds out there that are usually bite culprits,I feel pitbuls get the most media while other attacks aren't as broadcast.there is an automatic bias against this breed. a 6 week old infant was mauled by the familys dachshund in maryland. There also was a 2 year old little girl attacked by their dalmation in wales.sometimes we assume some breeds safe,I no longer do.I have a scotty, and although he is great with kids,I would not leave him alone with a 6 week old.

Actually symphony. . .a pitbull is not a breed at all, as you will see if you go back over my previous post. A pitbull is basically what happens to a staffy/"bull"dog when it has been trained to go in a "pit" and mame if not kill another dog of similar breed. In other words a staffy can BECOME a pitbull if some idiot trains it to be a "pit"bull. So you are correct in stating you thought it was a "rough term." That's exactly what it is. The problem is . . .not all staffy's or bulldog breeds have been trained to mame or kill but they get stuck with the same label as a killer type of dog.

LOL. I love your description of their behavior, "happy hyperness!" That is them to a "T." There is nothing like a greeting from this wonderful breed of dog. They absolutely adore their people and will knock you down on your keister and lick you from head to toe if they can get away with it!

They are seizing pitbulls in Denver, Co too according to the news in another thread in this pet area. Take a look at it if you like and haven't already.

You are so right when stating that there is a bias in the media where pits are concerned as well as rotties and some other breeds that I have been around and find to be wonderful people/family dogs. Thank you so much for mentioning the other breeds who have mauled as well.

Thank you for posting your good 2 cents regarding the beautiful staffy breed dog! May God richly bless you!

I think that is affirmative on this thread! Our staffys are the best. Thank you for posting! God bless you abundantly!
