Small correction here. The Commandment is "Thou shall not commit murder."

There is a differance. All murderers are killers, not all killers are murderers.

To the OP and his example that if a terrorist says kill yourself and everyone else will live I can only say that Jesus addressed this directly. He said that "There is no greater love than this. That one should lay down his life for another." Ofcourse he was speaking of his own impending sacrifice for us all on the cross, but it also applies to you and I. This is not suicide but sacrifice.

I would call suicide, the act of killing oneself out of despair, self murder. Those who are saved have a hope that precludes suicide. Scripture tells us that God will provide for us. Scripture tells us that we will not be tempted beyond what is common to man and no more than we can bare, but God would provide a way out from under that burden. If we believe God's word then no Christian should ever commit suicide.
