She was born Dec 23rd, weighing 6 lbs and 13 oz and 20" long. For those who know about this stuff, her APGAR was a very, very healthy 9.9.

Quite the Christmas present, and I doubt I will ever, ever forget this Christmas. We just got home from the hospital today.

Congratulations to you and your wife, Macarius. My niece's birthday is on Dec. 23rd. My advice is to be sure to treat her birthday and Christmas as separate events. I've known people that hated having their birthdays so close to Christmas because they felt like it got lost with being so close to Christmas. My niece has never gotten a combination birthday/Christmas present and loves having her birthday so close to Christmas.

My mother's b-day is close to Christmas as well, so I've heard some of her complaints about how the day gets treated. My wife and I have talked about having her name's-day be the day where we throw her a traditional b-day style party with gifts and friends and what-not. Her name is Cassia - so that would be September 7. We would still celebrate her birthday, but more quietly (e.g. with a special meal)

Cassia - lovely :D For Kassiani, right?

The idea of celebrating a nameday like a birthday sounds wonderful :) We've celebrated my nameday instead of my birthday before in our (non-Orthodox even!) house, since my birthday often falls during Holy Week which makes it awkward.

Yup, for Kassiani. We liked the Cassia spelling because "Cassie" is an easy nickname.

If the baby had been a boy, we were going to use Theodore (for Theodore the Studite; we like the connection).

It is :) Wonderful name (and well done for not naming her Barsanuphia or something like converts are supposed to do :p)

I suggested Barsanuphius (in jest), but my wife nixed it from the get go. Clever girl.

My first born son we named Luke. When we had Veronica not quite a year later, I tested the waters and asked Kate, my wife, if we should name our daughter "Leia." She swiftly picked up on my Star Wars fandom reference and cast it away....alas :p^_^
