I have gotten so used to using my debit card, gift cards, or cash, that I rarely write a check. When I do have to write a check, I usually drag my feet and complain.

It makes me nervous because I have grown so used to the instant transactions of card or cash that I had forgotten in the past that there's a check out there that hadn't cleared yet. It caused a huge problem. This now causes me to compulsively check my bank account multiple times a day until it is processed and showing a difference in the balance.

I write checks so infrequently that I don't want to pay for them when it is time to order new ones. My current account was opened in 2014, and I have not used up all the free checks that came with opening the account yet. I'm dreading the day I use the last one because I don't want to buy more.

I just had to write a large check last week in a situation where they were going to charge me almost 20.00 to use my debit card ("WHY???" ... "It's a service fee." ). It makes me angry when I have to pay in order to pay money to someone, like I have to pay for the "privilege" of paying money. I left the place and drove back up there with the checkbook. I'm not going to pay 20.00 just to get to pay for something.

So anyway, I have this big check floating around out there between banks, and I'm waiting for the thing to land. :sigh:

There was a time when I practically lived out of my checkbook (mid-1990's and early '00s). Back then more people accepted checks. As more and more people switched to cards, businesses began refusing to accept them because of the cost and time involved in dealing bounced checks. So I found myself in situations where I only had checks, no cash and I wasn't in the habit of carrying a card, and I couldn't do what I needed because checks were refused.

Before 2010, I switched to using cash or card because they were always accepted everywhere. Then there was that time I did use a check and forgot about it because I wasn't used to it anymore. Now I avoid check writing as much as possible. It makes me a nervous wreck.

I just want to let everyone know that the check cleared. Now I can quit eyeballing my account 50 times a day. There was never any question that it would, it just made me worry because it hadn't yet.

I'm sure you're all relieved :tongueout: You can continue on with your lives now.
