I’ve been struggling with doubts and I was very tempted to walk away from the Lord. It had to do with unanswered prayers. I’m starting to feel like it’s all in vain. That He’s never going to answer. I’ve been really struggling with this.,

Maybe they aren’t being answered in a way you expect.

Sometimes I think things going unanswered can be a reminder or rebuke of what we’re asking for or expecting.

God isn’t a vending machine, and He isn’t a fix-all for problems we can fix ourselves.

I know that may not be applicable depending on the circumstances, just recognise that some things are within our own realm or the realm of others God has placed us near to resolve.

Our Father never promised to answer our prayers as a matter of fact, by not answering them is the ultimate test of our love and faith for Him.
We all must check our faith. Is it based on what you can get or is it based on what you can give.

In the Bible, prayer is often seen as an intimate, sincere communication with God, and several attitudes are emphasized in the Old and New Testaments for being heard by God.

One of the key attitudes is humility. In the book of Psalms, David expresses a deep sense of humility when approaching God in prayer. Psalm 51:17 says, "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart—These, O God, You will not despise." This verse speaks to the importance of coming before God with a humble heart, acknowledging our need for His mercy.

Another important attitude is faith. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus makes it clear that God responds to those who pray with genuine faith. In Matthew 21:22, He says, "And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive." Faith is foundational to the belief that God hears and answers prayer.

Sincerity is emphasized. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus warns against the empty repetition of words in prayer, pointing to the necessity of a genuine heart. Matthew 6:7-8 says, "And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him." This teaches us that God values sincere, heartfelt prayers over mechanical or ritualistic ones.

Moreover, in the Old Testament, the prophet Isaiah highlights the importance of righteousness in prayer. Isaiah 59:2 says, "But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear." This verse emphasizes that sin can block the effectiveness of our prayers, and that righteousness is key in being heard by God.

Lastly, persistence in prayer is another attitude that is encouraged. Jesus teaches about this in the parable of the persistent widow in Luke 18:1-8. The widow continues to plead with a judge, and Jesus concludes
the parable by saying in Luke 18:7-8, "And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily." Persistence in prayer is a sign of trust and devotion, demonstrating the belief that God will answer in His perfect timing.

When we approach God in prayer, we are encouraged to do so with humility, faith, sincerity, righteousness, and persistence. These attitudes reflect a heart that seeks God's will and trusts in His goodness and timing.

Please do not let Go, but try and get closer to GOD.

Blessings

I live by the basic mechanism of my conscience and pray to the Lord for the underlying guidance of His will and commandments. I always remember my shortcomings as I do this. ( for example. see Philippians 2:12, 1 Timothy 2:1-6, 1 Timothy 4:10, 1 Timothy 1:5 etc.)

Don't know if this applies to your situation, but sometimes God's answer to our prayers is "No" or "Not yet". Which isn't usually what we want to hear, but while we might think we know better, He is the omniscient one, who actually knows what is best.

What are you asking for, in your prayers?

You asked for prayer for Josh.

If a person is not obeying Jesus, he or she has a hard time.

"destruction and misery are in their ways;
And the way of peace they have not known."
(Romans 3:16-17)

So, if he is disobeying Jesus, he is his real problem. And if he is taking things hard, this is because he is deeply weak without Jesus so things can get to him.

So, you need to be strong in Jesus so you can hold up against how his troubles would get the better of you. Show him you have peace in spite of this evil world and how sinners cause misery because of their own disobedience.

"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might." (Ephesians 6:10)

Our basic in Jesus is we be strong in Him, so that troubles of our lives can not have power over us to make us worry and suffer and quit.

Look at how our Apostle Paul learned to deal with troubles >

2 Corinthians 12:7-15 >

At first, things were getting the better of Paul. He even begged Jesus to make his "thorn in the flesh" go away. But Jesus says, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." When Paul heard this, Paul got the message of that demon messenger messing with him. And in God's grace of Heaven's love, Paul took "pleasure" while he was handling his troubles!

And who is our pleasure while we go through things the right way, obeying God?

Our pleasure is in Jesus who is so pleasing to our Father; and He is growing in us, making us also so pleasing and pleased in such sharing with Him in us.

So trust God our Heavenly Father for this >

"casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)

This is a common problem that confronts both new and seasoned Christians, and you have several good responses already to the tough issue. If you have the time and general interest, here's two favorite sermons on the subject that I highly recommend - the first video from Rick Warren and the second audio from Tim Keller:

Prayers in Israel were related to their covenant relationship with God and the expectation of the kingdom for Israel being immanent. For believers today one can look up in a concordance the word "prayer" in Paul's letters and find that it is more related to spiritual growth and the working of God's will.

When I was laid off 40 years ago, I found the advice, "Make a job of getting a job" to be useful. I would get up the same time of day I did when I was working and went to the library to look at the want ads in the paper. I then would make phone calls and write letters with a resume and send them out.

We can still pour out out hearts to God, but we also need to take advantage of what we have in front of us.

Stay strong in your love and faith of God. Dont let the devil try to pull you away.

Remember, as you carry your cross/s in life, Jesus is indeed carrying you my friend.

Persevere in prayer. When times feel hopeless, pray harder. Stay on that narrow road that leads to God. No matter how difficult it may be.

God bless you...

What are you qualified to do? Are you healthy enough to do physical work? What is your area like; big town with a lot of small businesses? City? Thinly populated? An area with wildlife and park management?

Do you have a church that you trust? You can help there, and see what can come from knowing people there.

You can get food while you do dishes.

Christians who are well-to-do can volunteer at food assistance places, and in prisons, and nursing homes. You can volunteer with them and get to know each other so they can hire you or connect you with people; and you can learn from how they are and live so you can do well relating in a job.

Where I am, they are in need of caregivers. But you need to learn this.

Nursing homes and hospitals need various kinds of workers.

What do you deeply believe in, that could give you a cause as your reason for choosing what you do?

In my case, I appreciate being able to care for people. But I do not get paid, but God provides. I am not limited by an employment contract and boss telling me how much and what I can do. I have education and work experience for this, but being free is different than being on a schedule. The one I help connects me, at times, to help others, too. And we do church and Bible and prayer and mutual correction with each other.

Yes, loving has gotten me here, how God pleases to get the credit.

God through Jesus is our only resource that really works; so we are not wise to give up on Him.

So - - with God we discover how He has us succeed. When we get in trouble, God is not our problem!! We need to submit to God, not only treat Him like He is out there somewhere maybe hearing and maybe not listening to our prayer. Trust Him >

***unconditionally***

Or else . . . we can keep discovering how anything we try does not work. If something doesn't work, this simply can be because it isn't what works.

But with God . . . He creates better than what we can think and try, and He has things working with what He has us doing.

So, if I am right about this, you can see how quitting on God will not work.

Trust Him,

"casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)

Instead of being ready to quit, use your time now to get with God and learn how to relate with people so you can do things with God while you work and so you are ready to relate well with other workers and whomever you are serving.
