Matthew 16:23 (NLT)

"You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God's"

According to the American Humanist, humanism is a philosophy informed by science, inspired by art, and motivated by compassion. Humanism is the opposite and the nemesis of holiness. Whereas humanism emphasizes self, holiness exalts God. Liberal psychologists tell us to be good to ourselves, do what feels good and right, and better ourselves. Many of the federal and state government policies are rooted in humanism. Things such as abortion, legalization of sexual immorality and substances, flag burning, and others stem from this right to self and self-expression. The individual is exalted, and all the policies and decisions are based on protecting and exalting individual liberties.

The question we Christians need to ask is, do those personal liberties honor God and glorify Him? The world tells us to do what feels good and right. But how does God feel about those liberties and rights? There are many liberties and rights, such as the freedom to assemble and worship that glorifies God. Still, many others, like the right to an alternate lifestyle, are an abomination to Him. Our policies and outlook should be based on what God thinks (Romans 12:2) and not humanism. When we fail to uphold God's holiness because we don't want to be seen as divisive, then we behave like humanists and not the children of God.

There is nothing wrong saying that Christians are: "informed by science, inspired by art, and motivated by compassion."

Not the opposite in the slightest.

Humanism views humans as superior to God. Honor and priority is given to science for example, and whoever disagrees with those perspectives are projected as being ignorant.

A couple of Biblical examples of not giving God honor and acknowledging Him.
"King Nebuchadnezzar. "...he was walking on the balcony of the royal palace in Babylon and boasted, “Look at this, Babylon the great! And I built it all by myself, a royal palace adequate to display my honor and glory!”
31-32 The words were no sooner out of his mouth than a voice out of heaven spoke, “This is the verdict on you, King Nebuchadnezzar: Your kingdom is taken from you. You will be driven out of human company and live with the wild animals. You will eat grass like an ox. The sentence is for seven seasons, enough time to learn that the High God rules human kingdoms and puts whomever he wishes in charge.”
33 It happened at once. Nebuchadnezzar was driven out of human company, ate grass like an ox, and was soaked in heaven’s dew. His hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of a hawk." (Dan 4).

Also, "And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.
22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.
23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost." Acts 12:21-23

When we don't honor and glorify God and aren't thankful, it impacts society. Rom 1 gives the details particularly v 15 through the end of that chapter.

We can't love God and others as ourselves without His help.

It's plenty wrong when the underlying premise is to feel sorry for people at the expense of God. Our love for humanity flows from a love of God. Feeling sorry for the sinner and making God out to be the evil and cruel person for having such high standards, as secular society would have us do, is blasphemy. Looks like you have humanistic tendencies as well. I'll be praying for you.

Very humanistic tendencies. Thanks! You are sharp as a tack.

Do not plan evil against your neighbor, who dwells trustingly beside you.

Matthew 7:12
“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Luke 10:27
And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”

Luke 6:31
And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.

Matthew 19:19
Honor your father and mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Leviticus 19:18
You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

Leviticus 19:16-18
You shall not go around as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not stand up against the life of your neighbor: I am the Lord. “You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but you shall reason frankly with your neighbor, lest you incur sin because of him. You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

Galatians 6:10
So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Romans 13:9
For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Proverbs 3:28
Do not say to your neighbor, “Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give it”—when you have it with you.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

God requires that we empathise with all our neighbors.

  • Drug Dealers

Ephesians 4:29
Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

No not empathize but to Love our neighbor. By loving others we are not to understand or agree with them in their sin but to share the gospel and act accordingly.
When Jesus ate with the prostitutes and tax collectors do you think he was being empathic with their sinfulness? No he was about his Father's business sharing the gospel about a better way to live.
