Confinement, rehabilitation, restitution.
And no first offense probation.
And no first offense probation.
All actual rehabilitation I know about was empowered by the Holy Spirit. Man cannot force that, and the Constitution appears to forbid certain attempts to try. Prison ministers do good work, and that needs to continue.I'd like to see actual rehabilitation taking place in prisons and other such institutions rather than someone going in and coming out worse than they were before they went in.

Are you referring to being too old to do much harm any longer, Old Wise Guy?Many will just outgrow their criminal behavior given enough 'time'.
That's not rehabilitation. Any many won't.
Confinement, rehabilitation, restitution.
And no first offense probation.
I do not know of any easy fix.
But a model of a scale, or maybe called scales.
Crime on one side and respect on the other,
to tip the scale would need an increase in respect.
I would have thought that crime is lack of respect.
Or originates out of a lack of respect,
in every thinkable aspect of life.
Yeah, pretty sure it has something to do with that.
More like a reprobate mind.
I had to look that up.
But ok,
It still boils down to a lack of respect.
Perhaps, but knowing that doesn't reduce crime.
No that is clear, but putting into practice is what does the trick.
That would come under rehabilitation, and perhaps restitution.
Respect for others begins with self respect, which is built upon the exercise of virtue. This must be part of the process.
If that is the case then many need to be rehabilitated.
In the US we already have the highest incarceration rate of any nation. Rehabilitation, not so much. The problem is that there are so many theories about rehabilitation that have various success rates and that, it seems, none are universally accepted.Confinement, rehabilitation, restitution.

A single prong attack on crime will not work on such a complex issue as to why a person becomes a criminal.
Of course, it should also be noted that the US crime rate is about half what it was 30 years ago. Something must be working.
