Politicians. Welcome to the world of Westminster.

Just remember most of us in Scotland voted to stay in the EU. Lots of people here are worried about Brexit, your prayers would be appreciated.

Actually he was looking for a sound byte answer to a complicated question, in the context it is not just about staying in the customs union and there are a great many what ifs and maybes. The politicians struggled to express themselves and the journalist just got ruder and ruder.

Nah, that’s occasionally a fair criticism of the press, but here it was a perfectly reasonable question about a specific issue he should have answered. The government have consistently refused to provide the public with any clarity about their intentions, and with time fast running out its becoming a desperate situation.

The latest cabinet meeting just a day or two ago was more of the same. They had an 8 hour meeting and appear to have decided they want a cherry picking approach which the EU have said since day 1 is not on the table. This is not an acceptable way to treat the future of our country.

Incidentally the interviewer Andrew Neil is a Tory and has close ties with the party. He’s really not a ‘gotcha’ interviewer, he just gets really annoyed when interviewees try and endlessly prevaricate.

Not sure you realise how this negotiation process is working. They have to keep their cards close to their chest until certain key points are clarified. At the moment they are still waiting on Europe. When the one thing is established then the next one opens up. The government is here to represent the British public in the negotiation process not to give blow by blow details. At the end of the day the possibility exists of having to completely walk away from the table rather than accept a deal that does not work for Britain. Access to the Common market is a desirable goal therefore not a definite outcome nor necessarily the best possible outcome.

Sorry that’s just the governments propaganda. The EU have made the situation crystal clear from day one regarding what is and isn’t possible within their rules. Everything the Tories have tried to do so far has been based on the EU supposedly being ok with breaking their own rules, no matter how many times the EU say that isn’t an option.
