Ok. No one then.

So this is just another hit piece towards the President.

What on earth does this have to do with the president? Other than Bush, Obama, and Trump have all sat by and done little to nothing about the government mass spying on us through metadata, calls, emails, etc.?

First, you characterized China's new policy incorrectly. It doesn't do what you say it does.

Second, you're talking about two cultures that began to diverge 2500 years ago.

China is a country in which people have deeply cared how they were judged by their society in the very smallest ways for 2500 years. Chinese residents have been controlled by social "likes" since Confucius. Chinese citizens are perfectly willing to "vote" for social judgment of their neighbors because that's the way they've always been trained: Social harmony first in all things, and propriety in all things leads to social harmony in all things.

Westerners don't give a rat's okole.

It is not just based on other people's opinions of you. It is based on compliance with government set behavior goals.

Chinese Social Credit Score: Utopian Big Data Bliss Or Black Mirror On Steroids?

In China, government agencies and private companies are collecting enormous amounts of data about e.g. an individual’s finances, social media activities, credit history, health records, online purchases, tax payments, legal matters, and people you associate with in, addition to images gathered from China’s 200 million surveillance cameras and facial recognition software. Data that indicates non-compliance with legally prescribed social and economic obligations and contractual commitments are flagged up and aggregated on a government-wide level to determine the trustworthiness of companies and individuals.

They are using a mobile app in the Xinjiang province.

In a report released on Thursday, HRW said it had reverse engineered the app to see how mass surveillance worked.

The app is used to closely monitor behaviours, it said, including lack of socialising, using too much electricity or having acquaintances abroad.

Xinjiang police 'monitor citizens by app'

At one point I might have said that was the case. However, now we are in a culture that regularly has shame sessions online to try to ruin people's lives, careers, etc. We have people posting all kinds of things about their life to try to get likes, etc. And we have people reporting each other to various platforms to try to get them banned, removed, etc.

It is not that far from here to what they are doing. And the government is already bringing in some of the elements regarding the technology. Cameras are becoming more ubiquitous. Data is being given over to companies and the government. 5g is rolling out allowing for high levels of data transfer. AI face recognition is being rolled out.

To answer your thread's title, I'd say it would depend on who we elect to be our government leaders. If we vote "Socialist", then we'll end up implementing it here as fast as it can be done. Such a system of controlling the people would make Mao proud.
Interesting. I would say the Trump administration and his base would be the perps of this type system were it not for the patriots resisting via the Deep State and voters supporting anti Trump candidates.

You mean anti Trump candidates such as Bernie Sanders who thinks the Soviet Union was so great?
"As he stood on Soviet soil, Sanders, then 46 years old, criticized the cost of housing and health care in the United States, while lauding the lower prices — but not the quality — of that available in the Soviet Union. Then, at a banquet attended by about 100 people, Sanders blasted the way the United States had intervened in other countries, stunning one of those who had accompanied him."

We could elect Sanders instead of Trump, and then instead of hearing, "Make America Great Again", we'll be seeing policies that "Revive the Great Soviet Union Again", but using different words, of course.

Cow451 was talking about anti-Trump candidates. He was the one I was responding to, and I doubt that adopting Soviet style ways are going to help keep us from adopting Chinese ways. Candidates like Sanders has sung the praises of Mother Russia long before Trump became president.

It stopped the Soviets from doing it.

Lol, such irony.

Anyway, back to your fear frenzy whip up mate. I look forward to you using the word socialist as an epithet again.

Sounds like Sanders and Trump share common beliefs about authoritarian rule.

Beg to differ. I was talking about Trump and the patriots supporting his opposition.

History repeats itself, as you should be aware of by now. We're already seeing it.

Since it's what the 3rd letter of U.S.S.R. stood for, it has historically been an epithet.

Then it would be hypocritical for the socialists in this country to support Sanders.

Bush, Obama, Trump, all of them allowed the surveillance state to grow. The establishment of both major parties are fine with this kind of power being wielded by the government.

There are a few in both parties who vote against endless war and surveillance state policies, such as Rand Paul or even Bernie. But I am not sure how much they can really do to change the momentum.

Trump sometimes speaks about about the power of the deep state, and their powers of spying, but usually in the context of how they are persecuting him, and not as much in regards to the normal citizen. And he at times speaks against endless war, but his record is spotty.

So someone else will not do what the Chinese did, well, OK, kinda destroys your own argument though.

Nope, that's all you, and a minority of other Americans. The rest of us don't judge a word by it's location in a country's name.

Democratic People's Republic of North Korea.

I can use democracy as a swear now, amirite?

So's law doesn't prove anything and has never been a valid argument.

"The rest of us" seem to view socialism as being on par with social websites. If Facebook is so great as a social networking site, then socialism for an entire country must be great!
