utilize your faith to overcome bursts of rage? We all get angry, some more than others. While the frequency of mine are fairly minimal, I sometimes get extremely angry at people who disrespect me or others close to me. Sometimes they will provoke a fight, and at times I give in to the devious forces of wrath. What do you as Christians do to maintain composure? If you focus on Jesus and his overall message of peace and love, elaborate.

Just keep trying and growing in grace. As you grow, you will develope the in the fruit of God's Holy Spirit. One of them is self-control, and is one of the tough ones to grow in - along with patience. You will see and know the wisdom of His fruit as you grow in them. Stay filled with God's Word, renew your mind daily and , meditate upon His Word - engrafting it into yourself so that you might not sin against it. God will perform these changes in you as you grow in Him and desire the change, as you have expressed in your post.

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 meekness, self-control; against such there is no law.

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Psalms 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Also, we are to overcome evil with good, and everytime someone mistreats you it is an opportunity to practice this precept of returning good and love for misdeed.

Romans 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

You have received very good advice here. It is indeed a challenge to stop anger, since it rages very quickly and harbors bitterness and resentment. Not all anger is bad, but when it is out of control it is very bad, especially if it has become a habit. I agree with "raphe" in coveting the "Fruits of the Spirit." My advice is to MEMORIZE that Scripture and pray to have the Holy Spirit bring it to your memory when you have stormy situations.

Galatians 5:22,23: The Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control."

LOVE
JOY
PEACE
PATIENCE
KINDNESS
GOODNESS
FAITHFULNESS
GENTLENESS
SELF-CONTROL
