  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

{EDIT}

To any Christian who wonders how to hear from the Holy Spirit:

When you confessed Jesus as your Savior (Romans 10:8-13) the Holy Spirit came to live inside of you. He is always there, always available for guidance, for understanding of scripture, for relating to others.

You were placed on the Path to eternal life. The Holy Spirit is on that Path with you.

Through His Word.

Testimony: This year I had a sexual identity crisis, most of this year I had identified as a bisexual and decided to pursue things in the summer. I felt that I was betraying God, and didn't feel comfortable leaving Him, till I saw that bisexual Christians existed. I was prepared to change churches and go to a more LGBT affirmative church that would give me the freedom to be bisexual. It was a very depressing time in my life, I felt like I didn't recognize myself anymore. One day I was writing in my journal, and I wrote "bisexual Christian" and I stopped and questioned, why is my sexual identity as important as being a Christian? And Matthew 16:24 came to my spirit:

"Then Jesus said to His disciples, 'If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.'"

I knew God was reaching to me through His Spirit, and I repented and asked Him for forgiveness and that He would help me find my identity in Him.It has been about two months now since then, and I've been seeking Him and meditating on His Word. The more I've been into His Word, the more He reveals Himself to me, and the more the layers of my sins started to show itself and peel off slowly. He's healing me day by day, and although I still have days where I find my lustful flesh be weak, I know that in Him I can overcome.

It's true that the journey of faith is like a refining fire (1 Peter 1:7)

How do you know when you hear God's voice leading you? How do you determine what is your opinion/thoughts vs Gods? Would love to hear your experiences. God Bless.
I hear Jesus in words in my head with his presence right above me, then I hear the Holy Spirit, not in a voice, or with words really, but in thoughts and feelings or promptings and unctions, from within me...

I sense that the Father is with Jesus also, as if they are one...

God Bless!

You might say learning to hear the Lord's voice is an art that takes a lot of effort to develop. I don't think anyone does it overnight. As Paul told us, "Pray constantly (1 Thess 5:17 RSV)." If you've read the Bible, you know what the Lord (God and Jesus) has taught us. He will not contradict himself when he speaks to you.

I don't discount that God can speak to us personally in some sort of fashion, but I think trying to figure that out can be very dangerous; and instead think we should look to where God has spoken and where we know God's word is: the most obvious here is Scripture. We also can look and see the historic teaching and practice of the Church, where God's word has continued to be preached, confessed, and preserved. I believe that we shouldn't try and find God's voice inside ourselves, that's almost certainly going to get us into trouble--we should instead be looking to where God has promised to speak and act, in His Church preaching the Word and administering the Sacraments. Scripture, the Gospel, the Sacraments--these are the loci of God's own continuing presence and disclosure of Himself. If I should desire to understand God's will, I should find what is revealed, and what is revealed is that I should love my neighbor, to do good to all people, to be kind, gentle, respectful, etc. As Christ our Lord has commanded, "Love your neighbor as yourself", and also, "Love your enemy", and St. Paul having written, "As we have opportunity, let us do good to all people".

How is it that you don't hear Him? Preoccupation with everything else??? That is the problem with soooooooooooooo many of us!

I would agree most with the answer you got here, Lamb7. Even Samuel, a prophet of the Lord, didn't recognize God's voice speaking to him at first, when it was audible. Scripture speaks of God speaking in a still small voice (1 Kings 19:11-13), and I believe this is because He wants us to truly listen to Him during prayer. I hear Him primarily in thoughts, though sometime it is a near audible voice (the thoughts are so strong they sound like audible words). But thoughts will come to my mind, and when they are in answer to doctrinal questions I go to the word and begin finding out that what He spoke to me was indeed so.

That having been said, I think He is much quicker to speak to us regarding wisdom and revelation than more mundane matters (James 1:5-8), so I would suggest asking Him to speak to you first and foremost as your Teacher in the word. From there, learning to hear His voice with regard to other matters might become easier as well, as you would begin to master knowing what his voice and/or leading "sounds" like.

It's tough to consciously think about when God is speaking because he does it all the time and so it's just natural to ignore the place of origin with it.

It is God if it is always true. If you test it, than its correct. If it aligns with scripture, and doesn't go against it. Often this means you don't notice until after the fact it was God.

It is God if you have a reoccurring thought over and over with doing something that is good, but tough. Having a thought over and over bc he's very persistent.

It must be something that builds up others, but must also align with truth. His voice will build myself up as well, but not in an arrogant way. It does not harm or destroy. His voice does not typically cause fear, except in cases where he's trying to change a person's ways. Fear and doubting go hand and hand. They are not from God.

If my thoughts or opinions are wrong I generally have dreams about it so that I'm able to see the error. If I'm lucid and knowing I'm dreaming ill generally test the dream characters and such too. Normally they fail the tests.

As I fall asleep I'm generally vaguely aware of christian ideas/thoughts floating around or God's actual voice or music with christian concepts forming as I begin to lose consciousness. Same thing when coming out of a dream.

God speaks especially through experiences, "real" life and dreams. There's really no limitation on that and generally words can be misleading where experiences hold true. For example having an answered prayer is a big one. No amount of "logic" takes that away.

I have had dreams before, but that was before I was saved and it was a dream calling me to Christ.

How do you know when you hear God's voice leading you?

In the concept of leading me in the Word, I receive revelation, understanding and clarity. If it's an action, I try my best to confirm first if it's ok. If the reply doesn't seem right, I pray to silence all voices not of Him before inquiring again and listen. If He doesn't answer at all, most likely He wants me to be still or 'wait' meaning not do anything or not do something until an appointed time.

For example, I'll ask "Daddy, is it okay if I go grocery shopping today?" He replies "No, I want you to stay home." Then I'll pray: "I silence all voices not of Yahuah God with the Fire of the Ruach HaKodesh and the Blood of Yahushua in Yahushua's name." After asking again and hearing the same reply, I won't go.

God probably had me either avoid a car accident, sinning or potential backsliding in any area I'm weak or prevent overspent funds, or needed me to have the money available for something or someone in the future. He may need me to perform an 'assignment' for Him or learn a teaching I might miss if I'd left that day. The 'potentials' list goes on.

How do you determine what is your opinion/thoughts vs Gods? Would love to hear your experiences. God Bless.

My experience & relationship with God for thoughts/opinions, if they're not in alignment I do my best to cast all thoughts and imaginations down bringing them into captivity sending them to the feet of Yahushua to be destroyed or sent back to the enemy (if they're from the enemy) per 2 Corinthians 10:5.

I try not to have too many opinions and thoughts as they can either get me into trouble or I may miss a message He's telling me hence the above prayer. I fight against my flesh daily and the enemy especially during a fast. I still have a broken hedge of protection that's in the works of being fixed.

He'll answer questions I've had about His Word when I'm ready or if a prophecy hasn't come to pass yet. He did that today as I inquired why one woman's ordained husband hadn't arrived yet and I heard the words "He's been delayed." I replied "Ok, but why?" and I received no reply most likely because it was none of my business ;).

4 hours later, the woman I inquired about popped online to give a prophetic word from God via Periscope. She said God has been delaying blessings from many as they are not ready to receive them yet due to many reasons her included and He did not reveal it to her either.

The majority of God's reasons were people needed correction of behavioral characteristics or habits, they had hidden unforgiveness or past trauma, hidden unrepentant sins, their souls were damaged and unhealed from previous trauma and needing healing or cleansing, bad spending habits, not mentally prepared, etc.

In this situation, sometimes God will use another prophet to reveal the answers so He will receive the glory and teach others to be mouthpieces for Him in their daily walk and relationship. There's no limit with God of course on how He wants to answer us. :) Hope this helps someone in Yahushua's name.

Shalom and be blessed,

Bro. Daniel
