If a woman knowingly clothes herself in a manner that may cause a weak brother to stumble into sin, does this demonstrate her love for God and neighbor?

Edit: And as far as Christian or non-Christian, if she is non-Christian, her standards of morality are grounded on a lie and the only thing that we should be concerned with is that she receive a revelation of Christ's love. The woman at the well probably "wasn't wearing a bra", how did Jesus treat her?

It all comes back to intent, doesn't it? And one is making assumptions about "knowingly."

For example, there is a lady I know in real life. As a very small child she suffered very severe burns to her chest. As a result the skin there is very profoundly scarred and her development was not "normal." She is not able to wear a bra without severe pain, but - due to little development - nor does she feel she needs to.

Never would she think she might be a cause of stumbling. She thinks of herself as so marred and hideous that she goes out of the way to hide her burn and very few would even realise, unless she told them, that this had happened. But someone who didn't know her might not realise any of this, realise that she wasn't wearing a bra, and make all sorts of assumptions about her lack of love for God and neighbour. They'd be completely wrong, though.

It all boils down to the condition of the woman's heart, her relationship with God and her obedience to the Holy Spirit. Only the individual and God know the answer.

Intentions are assumed far too often, along with one's modesty, both internal and external, which is why the answer is really so personal. Does a modest heart religiously bully and guilt women into modest, outward apparel but leave the heart unchanged? Or ought we to focus on allowing the Holy Spirit into the heart so that He may do a greater work from within?

I think there's a reason why my brother Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, taught on modesty but didn't leave an extensive, clearly-illustrated dress code for the Church of the 21st century. It challenges us all to seek after and trust in a relationship with a living God and not in the flawed interpretations and doctrines of man.

I personally prefer to remain modest in my attire, especially as I continue to mature in the body of Christ. I continue this personal modesty into my sleep attire as well. I sincerely attempt not to put any stumbling blocks into my path, or anyone else's either.

I don't think a bra is the question, but is the apparel modest? I often go without a bra but then I really don't need one.

Modest can be subjective too, so it could often come down to motive. If the motive is to draw attention to oneself, then it is wrong (either the wearing of a bra or the not wearing of one). A woman should not dress herself with costly or fine-looking apparel but with godly attributes like charity and tenderness.

I'm not sure that I've ever noticed that a woman wasn't wearing a bra. Me? I don't care. I know my wife suffers a lot of pain wearing a bra and thus as her loving husband I encourage her not to. I don't think bra's even existed when Paul wrote. One can dress modestly without wearing a bra, and to men: your sin is your own, stop trying to blame someone else.

Was there even bras in Biblical times?

It is the heart of the man that is in question, not her.

Bra or no bra. The idea is not to show the breasts in such a way that could tempt a man to think lustfully. It would be good to not show cleavage (by the tightness of the dress) or have a shirt or dress that is see thru or too thin whereby something can be seen in some way. Dress modestly. Don't dress in such a way whereby it would tempt a man to sin. Clothing is about covering our nakedness. So if we are not covered properly, it can lead others to think in a wrong way lustfully.

I also do not believe somebody is too poor that they cannot afford a bra (unless they are without a job and money and are living on the streets and are not in the general public eye - which in such a case they are disqualified in tempting men). There are stores today that you can buy things really dirt cheap second hand and or even new.

Disagree as the woman should be able to dress as she sees fit. It is up to the man to control his emotions!

The bra is insignficant. The point is not to show the breasts so as to tempt men into lusting after them.

No. You are dead wrong, pally. A woman dresses in such a way to show her breasts to do one thing. To catch the eyes of men; And that is exactly what she does. She lays the trap and they bite. She has them around her little finger and she smiles because of it. Heads turn when she walks their way. Sometimes it is a power trip. This would not be the case if she were to dress modestly.

So she would be just as guilty before God as the men who look at her would be.

Well, you should not be looking! You should train your eyes buddy!

A woman has every right to wear or not wear a bra!

It may come as a shock to your worldview, but we generally don't dress to impress men we don't even know. We don't exist to decorate your world. We wear what feels best to ourselves, even when no one's looking. It's no coincidence that a lot of items of apparel designed to draw attention are actually bloody uncomfortable, including high heels, and yes, bras as well.

Case in point: women who go to the beach in bikinis are not looking to reel men in, just to enjoy the sun and sea. Men can consider it extra training for them to guard their senses.

Really? Casting stones is Old Covenant. I never said anything about looking at women like other men at all. Yet, you are making wrong assumptions. In fact, I actively seek to not look at women when I am in public. For I have eyes for only one woman and that is my beautiful wife.

Bra or no bra. The idea is to make sure she does not show her breasts in such a way that can tempt men. Showing cleavage and or having a see-thru dress (to see the breasts in some way) are not appropriate.

I disagree. There are women who do think that way. Also, regardless of whether or not one cares if they are naked or partially naked around others in public is wrong (Regardless of one's motivations). If you dress in such a way knowing that men are going to look and you just don't care, you are just as guilty for taking part in their temptation (for giving them something to look at so as to be tempted).

The bra is a non-issue. A woman can still dress in such a way without a bra whereby she will not tempt men. A thick enough dress, shirt, or jacket can cover enough so as not to tempt men. That's the point.
