I want to get involved with a worship team because it seems fun!

I sing mezzo soprano range, and I'm used to singing Catholic hymns growing up, so that became my signature singing style. The church I go to now, sings contemporary worship music and I don't know how to sing that style, but I would love to learn!

The worship leader's range is tenor so,
would I harmonize up then? And, how do I sing I'm harmony?

I'm not sure where to begin...

Harmonize up a couple thirds.

That leaves room for an alto to sing a third under you ...

Practice is key. I don't really have much advice to offer on this, despite being a church singer myself, since I mostly learn by ear. Does your parish have regular practice sessions for its singers? If so, take advantage of it.

how do I sing I'm harmony?
Often it's effective to sing a 3rd or 6th above or below the main melody, tracking the direction of the melody. Sometimes you have to stay on the same note even though the melody goes up or down one step, and sometimes you have to go up or down one step even though the melody stays on one note; you have to follow the chords. Occasionally it can sound good to linger on the 2nd or 6th or 7th of the chord.

The band Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young do this to great effect.
