How did the police believe this was a lone barricaded suspect? The Texas school massacre.

Maybe they thought it was their fault for not exercising their right to bear arms, and chose to do nothing ..

Or perhaps they're just that incompetent.

Small town cops incompetent? What?!?

That would be interesting if people captured mockingbirds and parrots and just ensured they only heard people saying "what?"

and then release them.

No one had a plan on how to defend the safety of the school, security was not up to snuff, and the children were always at risk.
Time finally caught up with reality.
It wasn't a matter of what happened, but a matter of when it would happen.
Uvalde school district had detailed security plan in place at time of elementary school massacre

The district employed four police officers, including a chief, detective, and two officers. The school district also had additional security staff "who patrol door entrances, parking lots and perimeters of the campuses."

The plan included a "threat reporting system" for "students, parents, staff, and community members" to share information that is deemed "troubling," which could include information "about weapons, threats, fights, drugs, self-harm, suicide or disclosures made that are concerning." The policy states reports could be made through the district site or to a district staff member.

The district also employed a company called Social Sentinel to monitor social media "with a connection to Uvalde as a measure to identify any possible threats that might be made against students and or staff within the school district."

The security plan also refers to lockdown drills. "Students receive training on the Standard Response Protocol for lockout, lockdown, evacuate, shelter, and hold. In addition, drills are held for each of these emergency actions on a regular basis."

The city even had it's own SWAT team which mentioned training at the schools on social media.

What happened
Somebody left a door open. And someone else had easy access to lethal weaponry thanks to the money of the supporters of the NRA and that’s about it. The classrooms have doors that are fire rated and locked to protect from intruders with evil intent. And this set of police couldn’t figure out what to do.

Texas police made ‘wrong decision’ waiting outside classroom, says official

seriously how? Emergency phone calls where coming from the classroom, yet they waited outside and did nothing.

What were they going to use to break the door down, they had to wait for that type of equipment unless it was a different type door than the regular school doors.
People plan and think they are prepared for situations such as that but when it actually happens one may make wrong decisions.

It is fair for society to be both grieved & outraged over these events,
but I am skeptical that the same can be objective about its fix while in that state.

In fact, I think that such knee-jerk solutions will be subsequently less secure than informed, dispassionate ones.

This is even more true of "armchair detectives" whose only source of information is popular media.

The doors to the classrooms had windows.

I have gathered that, but what really happened.

Door mistakenly left open and police take 45 minutes before engaging this person.

48 times during the first few months...
"The Uvalde public school district is no stranger to campus lockdowns. In October 2021, Mayor Don McLaughlin reported the district had been forced into lockdowns 48 times during the first few months of the school year, largely due to human smuggler pursuits near campuses.

At the time, Uvalde Mayor McLaughlin joined with a commission of local government representatives of Kinney and Uvalde Counties to demand action from the Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM) regarding the growing border crisis, Breitbart Texas’ Randy Clark reported. The county and city officials detailed the consequential impact of the border crisis on local resources."

You know watching the cops on TV tell who they could not go in now to this. This time I didn't read it all so is this just someone telling what should have happen? Hind sight 20/20.. sure in those moments its way different. NOW we know kids were killed then you had no clue what was going to happen. So looking back.. duh should have risked your life no matter what. Yet no one knew what was about to happen.

Try to remember know one could tell the future. Everyone has to (news and the like) has to chime in.. everyones a expert. :(

The officers that followed the shooter into the school knew what was happening in real time and failed to engage the shooter for 9 minutes of him continuously shooting in a classroom full of children. Even as 911 calls were coming in from students inside the classroom telling operators that they were in danger and that there were injured students they did nothing for an additional hour. Like Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw said today, "there's no excuse for that."

Yep, I can picture it now.
Every town should have a squad of dive-bombing parrots: all flash and noise, and confusion.
Policing by committee never works.
Someone has to step up and give orders that will work, that will accomplish the objective, and bring about a solution.
That's what was missing: a commanding police presence that had the training and the organization to get the job done.

Yep that's what was lacking, though the dive bombing parrots bit was pretty funny.
