It is a story of victory against impossible odds. It was a campaign spread over decades with an immense loss of life. Yet in the end Mao Zedong conquered China and made it the Peoples Republic of China. Why and how did Mao do this?

The way he treated women was awful. He had 4 wives and divorced one by whom he had 5 kids when she was having medical treatment in Moscow. The man was brutal in that respect.

The mission and self aggrandizement seemed to come first. Millions of people died in slaughters and because of famines and because of the prolonged civil war. That single minded brutal will to power was a definite feature of Mao.
