I was asked by a friend and I found nothing wrong with it. I told him it was actually one of my favorite Michael W. Smith's songs. What do you think?

Your Grace

I was lost when ya found me here
You pulled me close and held me near
And I'm a fool but still you love
I'll be your fool for the king of love

He gave me wings so I could fly
And gave me a song to color the sky
And all I have is all from you
And all I want is all of you

It's grace, grace
I'm nothing without you
Grace, your grace
Shines on me

And there've been days when I've walked away
Too much to carry
Nothing left to say
Forgive me Lord when I'm weak and lost
You traded heaven for a wooden cross

And all these years you've carried me
You've been my eyes when I could not see
And beauty grows in the driving rain
Your oil of gladness in the times of pain

It's grace, your grace
I'm nothing without you
Grace, your grace
Shines on me
Your grace, your grace
I'm nothing without you
Grace, your grace
Shines on me oh yeah
Shines on me
Shines on me
I'm everything with you
Shines on me
Shines on me
It's your grace
Shines on me
Your grace
Oh
Your grace it shines on me
Your grace
Your grace
Shines on me
Shines on me
Your grace it shines on me
Your grace

If that song brings you peace, joy, and a feeling of closeness and gratitude to God, then you should continue to listen to it, regardless of what decision the jury renders in this thread.

It is an outpouring of Smith's heart, a heartfelt prayer. It is not meant to be a theology lesson, and not every Christian song needs to be.

And certainly, those who find feelings of discomfort cropping up when they listen to this song, wondering if it is theologically correct according to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, should not listen to it.

No one should listen to a hymn that brings up apprehensions and fears in them, even if the apprehensions might be coming from their own perceptions and not the hymn itself.

Its really not about being Catholic. It's about God. I remember someone ripping apart Amazing Grace being sung in the Church. Because it was not written by a Catholic.

I don't remember the thread you were talking about. But, I bet the issue wasn't about the faith of the person who wrote the song, but rather on the lyrics. Like, "How precious did that grace appear, the hour I first believed" some believe (not I) that it implies that you must believe to receive grace. Which is a false teaching.

It was definitely about the writer's faith. It was about protestant songs being sung in the Catholic Church.

It's an oldie.

Face it...RC's are borrowing from the prots all the time. Life on the Rock (EWTN) shows youth playing guitars and worshiping with "Vineyard" music. EWTN also showed footage from the march on washington (Right To Life) and on the bus they were singing prot worship songs straight off Hillsong worship CD. I always laugh and say, "if only they knew."

I don;t have a problem with it. I just wish some of my catholic bros and siaters weren't bothered by it. ;)
