"Conned" wasn't the focus of my question --- having to repurchase textbooks was.

QV please: 113.
I know... and because being conned wasn't the focus of your question, the question is moot. Are you satisfied with our answers?

Yes --- thank you.

I didn't think about "penciling in the answers."

I don't think like a college student anymore.

The error was mine --- sorry.

No problem.

Speaking seriously though, that would be the stand in solution for the current term. Yes, chances are there'd be a reprint - depending on how big the needed edit would be it might have to wait until the next edition. The current students wouldn't have to foot the bill for this though, and the new students would likely get the new editions at the typical asking prices.

Care to name one?

I'm not allowed to watch TV for a week.
Hovind espouses the wonders of eating the SEEDS of fruits, as the bible prescribes. Why? Well because many seeds contain B17! And people with lots of B17 in their diets live longer and are healthier...

Except...they don't, "B17" is a fake name for Amygdalin. Amygdalin has a funny reaction when people eat it, it reacts with beta-glucoside (Which is found in the human gut and some foods) and produces that wonderful substance we know as cyanide.

For those of you taking notes, thats bad.

Repeated studies have shown Amygdalin to be in-effective at best and highly toxic at it's worst. As far back as the late 1800's it was understood that Amygdalin was toxic.

Now, this means Hovind is either willfully lying or he hasnt bothered to do the research before dispensing medical advice. Either way, its reprehensible behavior and advice that can get someone killed.

I wonder where he got that?

Let's see if we can't trace it back to a scientist teaching it --- shall we?

Well --- shades of geocentricity! --- look what I found:
Wikipedia --- Amygdalin said:
It was promoted as a cancer cure by Ernst T. Krebs under the name "Vitamin B17", but studies have found it to be ineffective.
Wikipedia --- Ernst T. Krebs said:
Ernst T. Krebs, Jr. (1912 – 1996) was a chemist best known for popularizing two substances as purported vitamins and cures:
  • Amygdalin (or laetrile), a purported cure for cancer, given the name vitamin B17 by Krebs.
  • Pangamic acid, given the name vitamin B15 by Krebs.
Not to worry though, your No True Scotsman Logic has you covered:
Wikipedia said:
Critics regard Krebs as a quack.

Yeah, you're misunderstanding the No True Scotsman there AV, scientists who are doing their job properly don't DELIBERATELY peddle information counter to what facts say.

Again, disingenuous.

And Hovind has no excuse for not knowing about its toxicity, that's been established since the 20's. This "ooh but those wicked scientists told us it was ok first, it's their fault, how are we supposed to know?" gets a bit old when the information has been around for centuries. Grow up and READ, for crying out loud.

Or maybe he just didn't get the memo?

Do you agree that this picture is a fair representation of yesterday's science?

Hey, AV! I can do pithy irrelevant offensive strawmen arguments too!

Look at this one, I call it "Yesterday's Christian thinkers."

Gee, is it STILL TOXIC?
Yup --- I guess so --- right along with milk, bacon, eggs, and all those other things that are supposed to kill you.

Did you know Thalidomide was a wonder drug at one time?

Thalidomide is, for lack of a better word, a wonder drug, as long as you don't give it to pregnant women.

*sigh*

Bacon, eggs, and milks ARE NOT TOXINS.

Try again.

And this pathetic strawman argument isn't doing anything to defend yourself against the fact that these claims of yours make creationists out to be too darn lazy to find things out for yourself and want someone else to blame instead.

I'm pretty sure God doesn't exactly smile on sloth and blaming other people unnecessarily (Joseph might want a word with you there, at any rate).

Aw, don't like it?

Then maybe drop the smart-alecy pictures coupled with irrelevant arguments, and just deal with the issue YOU helped to raise - that creationists would rather blame scientists when something goes wrong with an outdated claim that they themselves put forward.

Why?

We get blamed for such things as 'flat earth' and 'geocentrism' --- when all along it was "confirmed" by empirical observation and taught by scientists.

Where do you thing this B17 and other stuff come from, Cabal?

A church basement somewhere?

Do you deny that some scientist worked overtime to synthesize LSD?

Which of course means Kent Hovind was RIGHT to encourage people to eat cyanide seeds, and scientists are still the spawn of Satan.
You did mean 'apricot seeds', didn't you?

If you call it 'cyanide seeds', people who don't keep up-to-date with science might mistake it for being poisonous.
