The enthusiasm and wisdom of the underground church in Iran to pray before making decisions...... and praying powerfully for people who they feel to reach out to.... is an amazing example of how a whole nation can experience an awakening.

I find this profoundly encouraging information.

Most churches in Iran that are composed of Muslim-background believers have to be house churches, since the government only officially recognizes the churches that belong to the non-Muslim ethnic minorities which are traditional to Iran, namely the Armenians and the Assyrians/Chaldeans. These are forbidden from having services in the national language, which has the effect of closing them off to the Farsi-speaking majority. (Not by the churches' own choice, of course.)

On this matter, see the film "A Cry From Iran" about Armenian-Iranian martyr and evangelist Haik Hovsepian, who converted to Protestantism and preached as a leader of the Jama'at-e-Rabbani (Iranian branch of the Assemblies of God Pentecostal Church), whose membership is about 80% former Muslim and 20% Armenian, and illegally holds worship services in both languages (many people think that "Brother Haik's" refusal to comply with the government's demand to stop having services in Farsi and to hand over lists of members is one of several things that motivated the government to send agents after him to assassinate him).

I couldn't find the whole movie online in English (I have it on DVD, where it is available with English or Farsi audio tracks), but here is the trailer for it:

I got a newsletter from a Christian missionary group claiming one of their pastors was preaching in an Iranian prison. After his prison sentence was over, he and his wife had to leave the country due to death threats.

Christianity was illegal in the USSR after the Marxist revolution. Pastors continued to preach and smuggle Bibles. In November 1991 the Berlin Wall was torn down. East Germany united with West Germany. The Soviet Union broke up. Christianity became legal in areas where it had been outlawed. The prayers of the underground churches had been answered.
