Whenever I go down to Devon and Cornwall, I always feel like I've come 'home' - even though I've not lived there for many years. The place where I learned to walk, talk, read and write. A place where nothing seems to change and where time always seems to stand still. I love the countryside, the coast and the friendly country folk speaking in their slow, soft accents and the words and phrases I used to use as a child.

It was also a time of great difficulty for me - and a lot of painful memories as well as happy ones. It's a place I used to believe in God, even at a young age. Whenever I lost a toy or something special to me, I used to pray and I was delighted when I found it. I believe to this day that it was God's way of showing me that He was real and He cared.

I shall be experiencing the joys of British Rail today as I venture homewards!

A holder of a standard class ticket, I shall be leaving Norwich and heading to London, hopping on the Underground to Euston and then catching the snazzy Pendilino to the West Midlands.

I have always loved the the excitement of rail travel but am always glad to get home after the end of it all!

Hopefully there will be no leaves on the line to contend with and the weather being as fair as it has been, there should not be any reports of the wrong kind of snow!

I remember a time once where I had to do a rail journey. It was a time back in the 1990s when I was feeling very low and sad. It was a quiet train and the scenery was so dull that all I had to occupy me was my own thoughts.

A CofE minister entered the train and sat on the seat in front of me and I ended up talking to him. He was a very good listener and heard what I had to say. He was non-judgemental and a good Christian counsellor! By the end of the journey, I felt much more hopeful and positive about my situation than when I first started.

Steam trains are so beautiful and nostalgic. They take you to another time and place, a relaxing kind of escapism away from the demands and pressures of every day life!

Thank you! I put up a couple of versions of it - I don't know which one I'm going to keep - or I might keep both!

I love tinkling the ivories and it's taken me a number of years to put together a "home studio" for recording. Years ago, I used to have an old keyboard and connected a tape recorder using a jack lead. But later on, I felt something needed editing and it was too late! Or the tape would eventually get coiled and chewed up when it was playing!
Nowadays, I use a desktop PC running Linux and I have bought a program called Bitwig Studio (a digital audio workstation) and Pianoteq (virtual piano software) which can be used as a VST plugin. You can record different pieces and drag, drop, edit using the click of a mouse. Then export to mp3 or whatever media format you want! I wish this technology was around years ago!
