When will this be done? I hear that they have you up and walking around almost immediately - will this be the case with you?
It's good that you have people to look in on you. That has to be reassuring.
Hello and thanks for stopping by and chatting. It sounds like you might know someone who has had a THR and it went well for them.
I thought I was going to need to go to surgery right away today, but the nurse I called from home told me it's only an exacerbation of arthritis and that to hang in there as It will eventually settle down a little.
So after a really bad week end, it's just a tad off of the bite or edge off of it.
But it's still raw pain and weakening bone screaming out at me every day now, and all day.
I have to wait to see the surgeon until next week because I had dental surgery a few weeks ago, and any and all dental procedures introduces bacteria into the body.
That meant for me a 6-8 week waiting period before any major surgery.
Its my job right now to prepare my home for when I come back.
Like moving things from shelves to counter top level so I can easily reach them, and making sure that my bed sheets and blankets are clean before I leave, bc they can introduce bacteria if not washed before you go to surgery.
I've got to have some furniture removed and help with getting off the floor any and all trip and fall risks, like electrical cords.
I've also got to put some toiletries into zip lock baggies too and put together a small hospital bag with other toiletries, socks and lots of magazines or books to read.
I've also got to have lots of snacks and juices and waters by my bed stand too in case I'm too wiped to go to the kitchen.
Apparently, I will not be needing any undergarments, as you want nothing over the incision on the front of your hip, as well as they will probably have-me on a catheter.
and then there are lots of pre-op tests and unfortunately they make me go to different offices.
they got to test your ekg, urine and blood, then also do a chest x-ray.
they have a doctor or a nurse who will carefully go over what meds you should and should not take before surgery too.
and finally, its very nice to have a merry band of older church ladies who make it their mission in life to serve the community.
They are the angels among us.
