Amen.

I do some work in Baltimore and less frequently in other cities.
Right now I'd take my chances in Chicago, NY or Philadelphia over Baltimore.

Funnily enough, I did a search on Neighborhoodscout.com, which is a pretty decent source for this sort of thing, I've found. I was actually surprised to find out how well Chicago does overall - apparently it's actually safer than 11% of cities, it says. Take that for what you will, I found that pretty surprising.

Yeah, well, the lists change frequently. The shootings in Chicago were up over 200% in 2016. There's a shooting there every three minutes. I know, I know, a high population there, but they have the toughest laws! That should be evidence enough that no matter how tough you make the laws, it won't stop any mass shootings.

Chicago shootings up nearly 200 percent in 2016

As goofy as it sounds, I think Chicago's criminal image is still carried over from 80 or 90 years ago.
I never remember feeling unsafe there. I'd rather walk through Chicago than drive through Baltimore.

In my opinion, what is considered lax gun control is entirely subjective. One might think they're too tough, but if you're someone on the other end of the spectrum, they aren't doing enough. But the reality is, the laws get tougher, but the crime keeps increasing. As my source above says, shootings are up over 200% in one year!

The problem is that making guns illegal does not stop guns from being used; especially in areas where you can buy a gun as soon as you leave the city limits.

Australia's solution to firearms was actually quite effective (one could call it a total success). So the problem sure ain't the idea that no matter what, people will use guns.

I don't own a gun, but I literally know 50 people who do. I can go get a gun right now and shoot a place up. It doesn't matter what the law is. It doesn't matter if the place is a 'gun free zone'. Nothing will prevent me from getting a gun if I want one.

But sensible gun laws would. Gun free zones being an example of a silly gun law. I think you should all vote Rob for president, so he can enact Czech style laws.

There's no such thing as 'common sense measures'. You can't stop killings from happening. Look at Chicago. Toughest gun laws in the country, worst city for shootings. Gun free zones do nothing to stop someone from going in and do what they do.

I'm talking about common sense measures.
You say there aren't any?

I don't get it.
The common sense objective is to reduce the likelihood of "killings."

That can be done.
And the 2nd Amendment can be maintained, too.

This, surely, is reasonable.

If I want them...

Yes!
I agree!
I'm from the so-called "friendly" South.
When I was in Chicago, I found everyone to be downright sweet!
Except for the hot-dog-nazi guy in the airport...
And I spoke to him about that...

Love gun free zones.
A sign will stop someone who is willing to illegally possess and carry a firearm and is most likely willing to rape, rob and kill with the firearm.
BRILLIANT!

My husband says guns should be treated like cars.
Cars can kill people.
But we still allow ourselves to have them.

Why not use that same kind of common sense with guns?

Do you mean the training, license and registration that comes with owning a car? If so I agree that's what sensible gun laws look like.

Enforcement of existing laws is pitiful.

I remember a statistic around 80% of crimes involving a firearm are committed by criminals ineligible to legally own the firearm.

Most firearm possession charges are merely part of stacked charges bargained down by prosecutors.

Gun law #1 needs to be enforce existing laws to the maximum.

Why let criminals off easy while piling on prohibitive ownership laws for the law abiding?
