one time i studied 1 samuel 30 and was readng about how David encouraged himself in the Lord (vs. 6) and the Lord gave me an outline that i want to share. i'm not a preacher, nor have the training to put together message outlines. so i don't know how i illiterated this (much less was able to put it together) except to say it was all God that night. but here it is. (i'm not going to put verses with it because my intent is not to preach to you, but just to help you think)

6 ways we can encourage ourselves in God

1.secure our salvation (make sure we're saved. unless we get this hammered down all the rest will not matter)

2. study the Word of God (reading God's love letter to us)

3. supplication and prayer (communication with God is vital)

4. sing songs of praise (worship Him for who He is and what He's done)

5. surround yourself with fellow Christians

6. share the Lord Jesus Christ with others

I would say there is only two

1) Love God

2) Love Others

That's it. It doesn't matter how much you pray, read the Bible, go to church, ecetera. Love God and Love Others. Then, how do you love God? You love God by loving others. That's it.
