Are the healing ministries of Jesus and the apostles analogous to deaconal and mercy ministries of the church?

We teamed up with Faith Counseling. Can they help you today?

Hm. No analogy at all? Why not?

Well, maybe good and right vs other ? (I don't think that's what you were asking though).

    i.e. Look at the results.

It is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. You or I could be gifted with it.

Interesting way to look at it, actually. I've thought about it as analogous (or a glimpse) to the consummation of the kingdom when all things will be restored, including our bodies.

I certainly agree with that, but I don't believe that analogy is the right word here. I would say that it is a foretaste of kingdom consummation.

But since healing was an important part of Jesus' and the apostles' ministry, and this kind of healing power does not seem to be available to us today, we've got to figure out what to do with these texts. I.E. How to apply them to the church. I would suggest that we can draw an analogy between the healing ministries and the deaconal and mercy ministries of the church in this way:

    1. Jesus gave power and authority to the disciples to address physical brokenness.
    2. Jesus also gives us certain powers and authorities in the church today that we should use to address physical brokenness in ways that we can.

Our powers may not be miraculous, but cannot they be used in an analogous way?

This position is that the same healing powers which were available to the disciples are available to the church today and that no analogy is necessary. I don't agree with this, but I do see there are many who take this approach.

Believe. (noticed you just now posted you don't , though, so that settles that, eh? )

When Ekklesia lay down their lives for one another DAILY, taking care of each other and looking out for each other DAILY..... a lot may be accomplished, Yahweh Willing.

    Sounds like an analogy.

True, it is a glimpse or foretaste.

I do believe that the apostles had authority to heal.

Do you think the analogy to mercy ministries might be an appropriate use of these Scriptures?

I believe God chooses very humble people so they do not boast. It is a pretty rare gift however having hands laid upon you by God fearing Elders (three) is also scriptural.

    (Read Psalms 119 verses 1 to 3. )
Here's verse 3: "3 They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways."
    (re yesterday, today, and forever)

(3 They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.)

Yes. Good. But reality, truth, as Yahweh Says in His Word, is better than analogy, right ?

I agree that such a laying on of hands is Scriptural. But it seems to have a different level of power and authority than the apostles had.

I think the Apostle Paul (and others) were NOT humble, until Yahweh through Jesus made them humble - humbled them, and they were willing to be humbled, and always to obey Jesus.
(Psalm 119: 3 They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.)

Read a few of the testimonies about Smith Wigglesworth if you get the chance to...
Same power and authority the Apostles had.
Same healing Yahweh accomplished, when His Word was proclaimed in Truth.

    I don't know.

I am inclined to only look at it as different functions within the same body among the members. It was the apostles who did miracles and wonders, for their ministry, and it is the officers of the church to build up and serve the other needs in the church and local communities. I don't parallel them, but see them as exercising in the area of their ministry.

I suppose one can be understood as analogous over the other, but I don't know what to say about it at the moment.

John Chrysostom said this: "The “healings” we experience today are spiritual. It’s also miraculous healing when a hard heart is softened, when someone repents, or when their lives are morally reformed by the gospel."

In preaching on this text he wanted to talk about the power of changed lives as a "sign" that accompanies gospel preaching.
