Healing Goodbyes

The wind is howling
A lonesome song
Blowing the leaves
As the night wears on

The moon sheds its light
Upon twisted bark
Above this couple
With their broken hearts

Whispers of sadness
And tears of pain
The memory's too strong
As it starts to rain

Trembling and cold
She must somehow be strong
Wiping tears from her eyes
She knows they don't belong

He knows what she's feeling
He begins to see
He was her tormenter
And now she must flee

He still won't admit
He has problems at all
It's been too long now
That he's been building this wall

She says her farewells
Her last goodbye
As he turns to leave
She has to cry

Not for his love
It was never there
But for so much lost time
That she needed to share

Time marches on
She will eventually heal
Her heart will be mended
No more pain will she feel
