I did. Almost every day I carried a Buck knife in a leather case on my belt.
This is what I carried in a public high school in plain view of teachers and other students:
And during hunting season, which is most of the year in Idaho, I had any number of rifles or shotguns in my car in the parking lot.
Dozens of students did the same. Guns were even brought into the school to show a curious teacher who wanted to see your new deer rifle.
There was never a single stabbing or shooting or incident in the entire history of my school.
And I'm not all that ancient; I'm in my 40's. This was in the 80's that our culture hadn't deteriorated yet.
The point of this post isn't to start a political debate or argument about gun control. The point is to educate the mostly young and European folks here that something has changed in America over the past 30 years and it isn't the easy access to weapons.
It's the hearts of the students and young people; they are corrupted and lost. Our society has denigrated to the point that our schools need to resemble prisons in order to be secure.
Please remember this fact when you ponder and argue what can be done about the tragedies occurring in American schools.
