As I said, covid vaccine is only 95% effective. Flu shots are not 100% effective yet there is no shame to people who don't get the flu vaccine.
There is NO "100% safe and effective" anything in medicine.

1 year of testing is nothing when it can take years or decades for a health condition connected to a vaccine to rear its ugly head like a potential cancer.

The flipside of this argument is we don't the true long-term effects of COVID-19 infections. But what we do know so far is that it's very possible for this disease to have lingering health impacts. In some cases these effects can be debilitating to the point of leading people to suicide: Nick Guthe's wife died by suicide after a 13-month battle with long-haul Covid. He hopes help is on the way for others - CNN

There is relative risk in various choices. For myself, I would rather risk a newer vaccine versus the prospect of long-term health impacts from a COVID-19 infection.

If you are vaccinated, why would you be worried about getting the virus? Sure, there is only less than a 5% chance of getting infected after getting vaccinated. But considering the risk of death from covid is less than 1%, 5% of less than 1% is so incredibly small that you are more justified being afraid of the common cold.
Some people live around others who can’t be vaccinated (like children under 12) and don’t want to risk spreading the disease to them. It’s not fear. It’s courtesy and respect for other people’s health.

I don't understand why this point needs to keep being repeated.

Do people not understand how viruses work?

Judging my the postings on CF, the uninformed are legion.

So explain again why vaccinated people should worry about getting COVID or transferring it to others?

In case you haven't been keeping up with current events, the vaccines are not 100% effective, meaning there is a possibility of contracting some form of COVID from the ... foolish ones that don't partake. The vaccinated that do get reinfected have milder illness that the ... foolish ones that do not get vaccinated. I prefer not getting even a mild COVID rerun.

There is also the possibility of you contracting some form of COVID from another vaccinated person. In fact, if the infection escaped the vaccination, it would be more likely to infect another similarly vaccinated person than an infection which happened to an unvaccinated person.

Do the math, remembering that there is not ever a 100% guarantee the precautions and vaccinations. Then do the math about taking fewer precautions and vaccinations. It ain't rocket science, folks.

So does this mean we will also be immune to the effects of Roundup? Hey if the technology worked for Monsanto on grain and bee invading parasites, why not us?
And how far do you need to move the goalposts?

Because being healthy is preferable to being sick.

Is this a serious question?

Just got off the phone with a co-worker whose fully vaccinated daughter-in-law just tested positive for COVID. Gotta keep away from those vaccinated disease vectors.

The best way to reduce transmission is to reduce your social contact.

I have noticed that some people tend to view probabilities on the extreme ends, rather than being relative.

IOW, if something isn't 100%, it might as well be 0%. I've often wondered what leads to this type of thinking.

The best way is to use a combination of factors: vaccination, masks, social distancing, cleanliness/hand washing, etc.

Or, we could go by the metric that many of the posters here have ascribed to:

If you choose not to vaccinate, you're evil.

Why bring nuance into the discussion when a simple declarative assessment can be made?
