Has Muslim Theology influenced Iconoclasm?

I feel there weren't any major issues regarding the use of Icons in the History of Christianity until Muslims appeared. I mean, we know how strict and severe Muslims are regarding images of any holy person and the issue happened in Eastern Europe (close to Muslim nations)

since iconoclasm predates islam perhaps it and other scandals of the church have influenced Islam's general allergy to anything to do with iconography. It's common to look at the other guy to see what they are fighting about and then present a new position that claims to fixes it all.
