I don't know what I'm supposed to get from the use of the word "consensus." It probably means somebody made the claim but that's all.
In that long Reuters article, in which many people were named or identified, only TWO weapons were said to have been taken by anyone into the Capitol.
One was a stick (that's really good preparation if you're planning on being part of the most threatening "insurrection'' in our nation's history, can't we all agree? LOL) and the other was a pistol that was holstered.
The CBS article tells a lot more about the weapons that were used that day. Particularly against police. While not many of them actually got into the capitol, thanks to police intervention they certainly could have if the police hadn't intervened.
Technically we could say, hardly any weapons were in the capital itself, but at least some if the rioters were carrying weapons like bats, knives, one had a tomahawk etc. So there were at least some weapons there.
A lot of them were improvised like pieces of metal that were probably from the barracades, fire extinguishers probably grabbed from somewhere, desk drawers.
So, there were obviously some things there. But it still remains a fact this was a disorganized mob who forced their way into the capitol and caused fear in those inside. They didn't really do much once they got in except wander around and take selfies. One group did they and force their way into an area and one one of them got shot for their efforts.
The riot did not end democracy, or even come close. It was stupid and the people involv d are being prosecuted. It wasn't the worst thing ever or even close to Pearl Harbor or 9/11.
