Under pressure from a conservative advocacy group, The Hallmark Channel has pulled ads for a wedding-planning website that featured two brides kissing at the altar.

Zola had submitted six ads, and four had a lesbian couple. After Hallmark pulled those ads, but not two featuring only opposite-sex couples, Zola pulled its remaining ads, the company said.

“The only difference between the commercials that were flagged and the ones that were approved was that the commercials that did not meet Hallmark’s standards included a lesbian couple kissing,” said Mike Chi, Zola’s chief marketing officer, in a statement sent to the AP. ”Hallmark approved a commercial where a heterosexual couple kissed.

“All kisses, couples and marriages are equal celebrations of love and we will no longer be advertising on Hallmark,” Chi said.

In an interview, [Hallmark spokesperson] added: “The Hallmark brand is never going to be divisive. We don’t want to generate controversy, we’ve tried very hard to stay out of it … we just felt it was in the best interest of the brand to pull them and not continue to generate controversy.”

I'm not sure that excluding ads on the basis of orientation is the best way to go about being not divisive.

Oh no...now where will the lesbian grandmothers who previously watched the Hallmark Channel get their cards?

I think they'll be fine.

(The grandmothers, that is. The Hallmark Channel, on the other hand...like most of its viewership, I suspect it is living on a rapidly depleting supply of borrowed time.)

Good on them.

Liberals claim the right to force their morality on everyone else, but when a conservative refrains from allowing that to happen they are instantaneously attacked. What silliness.

I'm not sure that excluding ads on the basis of orientation is the best way to go about being not divisive.

Not engaging in the controversy wars is clearly a good way to avoid divisiveness. Running traditional ads on the Hallmark channel will generate much less divisiveness than running controversial ads. The fact that some do not understand this demonstrates an enormous blind spot.

All people deserve a Hallmark Moment, but some deserve it more than others.

(Please don’t stop buying our cards because we hate you.)

Kinda gives you a warm fuzzy feeling, doesn't it?

I'm still waiting to meet an actual homophobe (afraid of homosexuals). So far, no luck.

That's not the standard definition of homophobia.

Google defines homophobia as: "dislike of or prejudice against homosexual people."

A word's etymology is not the same as its denotation. A butterfly is not a flying dairy product.

Oh, I'm familiar with how the left generates new words all the time in order to facilitate its propaganda...and then insists that anyone who doesn't use them is some sort of bigot. ;)

Then not wanting to see two women kiss on tv is not really homophobia is it? Does not wanting to see a kid pick his nose on tv equal dislike of or prejudice against children? It is not the people that they are objecting to but what the people are doing.

It's not "the left" that coined the term. It was coined by George Weinberg, a psychologist in the 1960's. His usage was identical to the common modern usage of the term, used to describe subjects who had a contempt or hatred of homosexuals.

Except they are not protesting at a man kissing a woman, ergo prejudice.

At that point, I was thinking of the general routine, not of the word homophobia about which there probably isn't anything more to say.

And is it your contention then that this man was not politically on the left?
