Because it won't be a secular society and it will be a monarchy with Jesus Christ as the King. There will be no other religions other than worship of the Lord, and all crime will be punished swiftly and completely. Homosexuality will be punishable by death and God's law will be reinstituted. From what I gather, for most Christians on this website, that sounds like their worst nightmare.

How many times has Jesus Christ sat upon the throne? If you read the scriptures carefully, it failed because God's children/people do not hold up their end of the conditions regarding the covenant. It failed because people wanted to follow after their own wisdom and be drawn away by the knowledge of the world - its a problem that dates back to the garden. There is a great lack of faith with those who think that God's Law isn't perfect, or who think there are flaws in it. It's mind blowing that anybody who would call themselves a Christian thinks this.

Calling oneself so, and that actually being true, are two different things. If you don't even believe the Bible is accurate or good, and that "secular" worldly thinking and history is way more reliable, then that's a fruit of yours that is ringing many alarms for me.

As I understand it, Margaret Atwood was informed by misogyny and abuses of power as they have occurred in many places. Yes, Afghanistan was one inspiration, but it was not the only one; other inspirations included North American and European events.
