Well, to be clear...guns do not kill people provided you make sure the wrong kinds of people don't get those guns.
I've been advocating that we move to a Czech Republic model, but nobody from either side seems to be on-board with that
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_in_the_Czech_Republic
Concealed Carry is allowed (in fact, a similar percentage of their population has CCW permits compared to us)
Semi-auto rifles are allowed (notice the young lady in the pic shopping for a new AR at a store in Prague...apparently the scenery is better in their gun stores than in the one I normally shop at
)

Yet, their murder rate is only 0.7 (lower than France, Australia, Germany, UK, Italy, and Sweden...and tied with the Netherlands)
Most of my fellow pro-gun folks don't like it, because apparently any sort of legal change whatsoever means we'll all be living under Stalin by February.
Most of the anti-gun folks (or those in favor of strong gun control laws) out there don't like it, because "AR15's are bad, I know they're bad, and nobody is going to tell me otherwise...removing them is the only way to reduce the murder rate!"
We can have the best of both worlds like the Czech Republic has...but people on both sides have their heels too far dug in to their original misconceptions.
