Hi All

I am a western Christian doing a theology masters dissertation looking at Gregory's 'Homilies on the Beatitudes'

I was comparing the order of the beatitudes on various bibles where we have:
Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth. (NIV, but also ESV, NKJV and others)

However, in his homilies Gregory has switched the order (at least in the translation that I have access to). - he switches round number 2 and 3.

Considering that he describes the beatitudes as a ladder, its seems unlikely to my mind that he would take the scripture and alter it like this.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks

Edward
